This is the last weekend of the summer market and teams are moving in search of new additions. Liverpool, current Premier League champion, wants to acquire the Newcastle striker, Alexander Isak.
The Swedish striker stated that he did not want to continue at St. James' Park through a statement, stating that "when promises are broken and trust is lost, the relationship cannot continue."
In this last season, Isak scored 27 goals in 42 games. He was fundamental for the 'magpies' to take over the English League Cup, beating Liverpool in the final, which could be his next team. This being the first trophy for the 'geordies' in 70 years.
Liverpool against the clock for Isak's signing
Given the departures of Luis Díaz and Darwin Núñez, Liverpool has wanted to reinforce its attack. This summer they signed Hugo Ekitike, from Eintracht Frankfurt; now they want to have Alexander Isak for this summer. They have a chance to register him until September 1st.
The 'reds' made an offer of 127 million euros to Newcastle, but it was rejected. It should be noted that his contract expires in January 2028.
Although it seemed that the Anfield team was going to stop insisting on the former Real Sociedad player, there was a change in the last hours of the panorama.
According to information from 'The Telegraph', the Merseyside team would make a last attempt for 150 million euros plus a bonus for compliance, an amount that would be close to what was requested by Newcastle, which would have already given its approval. If the operation is effective, it would be the most expensive signing in the history of Liverpool.
On the other hand, the 'magpies' have already signed Nick Woltemade, from Stuttgart. And now they will look for Jorgen Strand Larsen, from Wolverhampton, and Yoane Wissa, from Brentford.
Eddie Howe removed Isak from the team
In view of Alexander Isak's attitude, Eddie Howe, Newcastle coach, decided to remove him from the team. For this reason, the attacker has not seen minutes this season.
"I think a quick solution to Isak's situation is ideal for everyone at Newcastle. We want clarity. We want to move on. We want the narrative to change," explained the coach.
On the other hand, Howe indicated that he wants to focus on what he can control, since there are another 25/30 players who require his energy and time. Newcastle comes from a draw with Aston Villa (0-0) and a defeat with Liverpool at home (2-3).
If the transfer to Liverpool does not materialize, Alexander Isak would be in a very compromised situation at St. James's Park.
He would have to rectify his decision to reconcile with his coach, the club and the fans. Otherwise, he would continue to be relegated and lose competitive rhythm. Will Isak be 'red' from this summer?
