Mika Mármol insists on leaving Las Palmas, but the club considers him non-transferable. Why is the future of the Catalan center-back important for Barça?
FC Barcelona continues to monitor the future of several players for whom the board reserved sales percentages. In the case of Mika Mármol, the UD Las Palmas center-back can contribute a significant amount to the club's coffers.
The Terrassa native signed for the Canary Island team in 2023 from Andorra, but Barça (who had released him in 2022) reserved 50% of his sporting rights.
The yellow team set his release clause at 10 million euros, with a contract for three seasons. Therefore, Barça could receive 5 net 'kilos' if Mika is sold to another club this summer.
However, the Catalan defender played 30 league games (27 as a starter) with Las Palmas in 24/25, and both the board and Diego Martínez's coaching staff consider him untouchable for the next season.
Las Palmas wants to retain Mika Mármol, but the center-back asks to leave
In this regard, the president of the Canary Island team, Miguel Ángel Ramírez, recently stated when asked about the defender's future that "Mika Mármol is staying." The Terrassa native has a contract for one more year, and the club hopes to retain most of its squad to fight again for promotion to the First Division in 25/26.
However, the defender prioritizes finding another team, as playing another year in the second tier of Spanish football is not in his plans. The 23-year-old player also played a year in Andorra before signing for Las Palmas and hopes to establish himself in the European elite next season.
In January, Mármol was rumored as a possible reinforcement for Roma, but the Italians' interest did not translate into a formal offer. Looking ahead to the summer, several LaLiga clubs are attentive to his future, although there are no ongoing negotiations at the moment.
If the center-back asks the Canary Island team to leave, the Unión Deportiva will refer to the payment of his release clause as the only way out. In two seasons, Mika has a couple of assists in 69 official matches (66 in the league, 3 in the cup).
Barça hopes for good news with Mika Mármol
For Barça, the ideal scenario would be for Mármol to move this summer, given the possibility of receiving 5 million net into their coffers. The club has fallen short of cash after the signing of Joan García and, while waiting to be able to return to the 1/1 rule before next June 30, every euro earned in the market counts to allow the arrival of more reinforcements.
The Azulgrana board hopes to sign another left winger, an operation that demands an expense in the order of 60-65 'kilos'. In addition to Mika Mármol, the Culés can also cash in thanks to Óscar Mingueza and Ferran Jutglà, with the Celta defender (10 M€ net) being the one who can contribute the best dividends.
