AC Milan has put Rafael Leao on the market. The 'rossoneri' have lowered the price of their star, opening the door to Barça and Bayern. How much is the Portuguese worth?
Rafael Leao hopes to resolve his departure from AC Milan this summer. Although the Portuguese knows that the 'rossoneri' team is the main figure of the sports project of the Lombard team and coach Massimiliano Allegri is counting on him for the 25/26 season, the team's absence from European competitions next season opens the door for the Portuguese international to think about a more ambitious project.
In that sense, Milan, which initially set the departure price of the '10' at no less than 100 million euros, could lower its economic aspirations as the summer market progresses. In this regard, the Italian journalist Gianluca di Mazio assures that those from San Siro could let their scorer go for 85 'kilos' this summer.
Rafa Leao asks Milan to speed up his departure: how much will they sell him for?
The reason for this decision is very simple: Leao has told his agent, Jorge Mendes, to do everything possible to facilitate his transfer and Milan has no choice but to wait for offers. Rafa has a contract until 2028 and his market value is around €70 million.
Therefore, a transfer for 80 million may allow the club to reinforce other positions on the field, such as the defense and midfield, although it implies losing its main offensive reference. In the 24/25 season, Leao scored 12 goals and provided 13 assists in 50 games, beyond the team's poor season in Serie A (finishing eighth).
For the moment, Rafa has two open fronts for next season: FC Barcelona and Bayern Munich. The Azulgrana team would be his priority, but the 'culés' are targeting Luid Díaz and Marcus Rashford as first alternatives for the left side.
Leao currently earns around 12 million gross per year, a salary similar to what Raphinha currently receives. This, added to the cost of his transfer, gives Díaz and Rashford an advantage, since both could arrive at the Azulgrana team for a lower price and with a more affordable salary.
In the case of 'Lucho', the 'Guajiro' could leave Liverpool for around 75 'kilos' and his salary would be around €5M net per season. Manchester United, on the other hand, are asking for 40 million for Marcus, but does not rule out offering a loan in which Barça assumes a percentage of his salary, currently €10M net. This would be the main obstacle for the arrival of the English winger to Barcelona.
Bayern, much closer to making their first offer for Leao
For its part, Bayern does not seem willing to pay €80M to Milan for Rafael Leao either, although his contract would not be a problem for the Bavarian finances. The club hopes to invest between 70 and 75 'kilos' in another striker, an absolute priority after the departures of Leroy Sané and Thomas Müller, in addition to the serious injury of Jamal Musiala, who will be out for at least six months.
As things stand, Milan is waiting for offers for Leao and the Portuguese is clear about his market priorities. Will Bayern be his new team? Will Jorge Mendes manage to convince the Barça board to resume this operation? There is still a lot of market ahead and anything can happen.
