AC Milan may put one of its stars on the market next summer. Theo Hernández's contract expires in 2026 and he could be an interesting alternative for FC Barcelona.
AC Milan hopes to resolve Theo Hernández's renewal soon. The French international has been one of the key figures for the 'rossoneri' since his arrival in the summer of 2019, scoring 33 goals and providing 44 assists in 246 official matches with the club. "We are in talks to renew his contract; he is happy to stay here", said Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Milan's executive, in a conversation with 'DAZN' before the Milan-Hellas Verona (1-0) match on Saturday.
However, if negotiations do not reach a successful conclusion in the coming weeks, the 27-year-old defender could change clubs in July. For FC Barcelona, signing a left-back is one of the planned moves for the summer, provided there is enough money available to bring in a player capable of challenging Alejandro Balde for the starting position.
Milan Warns Theo Hernández: If He Doesn't Renew, He Will Be Put on the Transfer List
In this regard, the 'rossoneri' stance is clear: if Theo decides against resolving his renewal in the coming months, he will be put up for sale next summer. The French international has a contract until 2026, and with the possibility of leaving for 'free' at the end of next season, Milan would negotiate a transfer this year, perhaps in the range of 30-40 million euros, as the defender's market value remains at €50M.
For Barça, Hernández could be a very interesting alternative for the left-back position, a role currently held by Balde as undisputed, but lacking a reliable backup in case of injury or significant drop in form for the young azulgrana. The Marseille native knows LaLiga very well from his time at Atlético, Real Madrid, Alavés, and Real Sociedad, so he would have no adaptation issues. However, the cost of his transfer and salary (around 6 'kilos' net per year) may be difficult to fit into the culé 'Fair Play'. Other players like Álvaro Carreras (Benfica) and Vanderson (Monaco) have also been mentioned for that position.
