Nico Williams has decided to cut short his vacation to close his signing with Barça. The club hopes to pay his clause this week, probably on Friday, with the winger's prior authorization

Calendar of FC Barcelona

FC Barcelona is confident in closing the transfer of Nico Williams this week. Beyond the tensions between the Blaugrana board and the forward's agent, Félix Tainta, due to the demand for guarantees related to his registration, the parties have resolved their differences and the player has decided to cut short his vacation to leave everything resolved in the coming days.

The player from Pamplona wants to close his departure from Athletic before the start of the 'lions' pre-season, next Wednesday, July 9th. Although the '10' could join several days later due to his presence with the National Team in the Nations League, Nico prefers to conclude his link with the Bilbao team this week.

Furthermore, the winger has not taken well to the harsh criticism from a sector of the Athletic fans and board. Barça, on the other hand, starts pre-season on July 13th, precisely the day Lamine Yamal turns 18. Williams, logically, will not want to miss the celebration at the Ciutat Esportiva, after the squad undergoes the mandatory medical tests after the holidays.

Nico Williams' signing could be closed this Friday

Although Barça has not yet returned to the 1:1 rule, the club can pay the 22-year-old player's clause in the coming days. According to 'SPORT', next Friday could be the date set for the Blaugrana team to deliver to LaLiga the 58 million euros of the clause, plus approximately 4 extra 'kilos' corresponding to the CPI.

For this, Nico must sign the notarial documents authorizing the operation. Hence, the footballer decided to return from his vacation to move to Barcelona and ensure that everything goes as planned.

Regarding his registration, Barça takes for granted its return to the 1:1 rule in July. This, however, will not be enough to register the Basque winger, as the club still needs to free up salary margin with other operations. However, the 1:1 is key to be able to reinvest in signings every euro earned in the market, for example with the loan of Ansu Fati to Monaco.

The club renewed the player from Bissau until 2028 to distribute his salary (14 million gross) in three parts, at a rate of 9.3 'kilos' per season. Monaco will take charge of 50% of the player's salary (4.7 M€), with which Barça frees up almost 8 M€ gross in salary margin, of which, for now, it can only take advantage of 60% to incorporate other players.

In the case of Nico Williams, if the day comes to play the first matchday of LaLiga (August 17th) without being able to register him (as happened in 2024 with Dani Olmo), Barça commits to releasing him so that he signs for another club for around 60 million, thus recovering the cost of the transfer. This scenario, logically, is only included as a formality in the contract.

Barça is also in a hurry to close the signing of Nico Williams

On the other hand, the new Barça kit has gone on sale this July 2nd and the club prioritizes putting the numbers that Lamine and Nico will wear in the stores as soon as possible. The player from Mataró will wear the '10' on his back, once he officially signs his new contract on July 13th.

The Basque player, however, will have to choose a different number, since the '11' belongs to Raphinha and the rest of the starting numbers (from '1' to '9') already have an owner. Yamal will take the '10' that Ansu Fati releases, while the rest of the squad's discards will release substitute numbers.

One of the alternatives for the younger of the Williams brothers may be the '22', number chosen by Raphinha after his arrival in Barcelona in 2022. The '12' is also free, for now, without an owner since Martin Braithwaite used it in 21/22.

In this way, the agreement between Barcelona and Nico Williams is total and the operation is only hours away from closing. From there to finishing the Blaugrana problems with the 'Fair Play', there is still a month and a half ahead to leave everything in order.
