Barça's crossroads with Pablo Torre: renewal or transfer?

Barça is not clear about the future of Pablo Torre. Although there are several clubs interested in the player from Cantabria, the midfielder does not rule out staying.
Pablo Torre has had a complicated 2025 with FC Barcelona. Although the Spanish midfielder ruled out leaving on loan in January, he practically did not count for Hansi Flick in the second half of the season. The player from Cantabria only started in the Copa del Rey against Barbastro (0-4), accumulating only 142 minutes of action spread over four appearances between La Liga and the Copa del Rey.
However, the player from Soto de la Marina, who will enter the last year of his contract on July 1, does not see his departure next season clearly. Sevilla, Girona and Betis were very interested in his loan during the last two transfer windows, but the midfielder, who already had a fairly gray season on loan at Girona during the 23/24 season, would prefer to stay and fight for a place at Barça.
That's what the latest information about Pablo points to, who in the 24/25 season has 4 goals and 3 assists in 14 appearances (421 minutes) with the team. The presence of Dani Olmo, Gavi, Fermín López and Raphinha himself to play as an attacking midfielder has closed the doors to the starting XI, although the 22-year-old player can still exhaust a path that is beneficial for his interests and those of the club.
Pablo Torre does not rule out renewing with Barça
In that sense, the option of extending his contract gains strength before the opening of the summer market. The Barça board knows that Pablo is a footballer with excellent potential, but the limited playing time in the last season complicates the options of a definitive transfer this year.
As the midfielder's contract ends in 2026, a loan would only make sense if the player extends his contract for two or three more seasons. Barça paid 5.5 million euros for Torre in 2022 and, for the moment, no team seems interested in paying that amount to acquire his services this summer.
In addition, the '14' has a termination clause of 100 million euros, just like Pau Víctor. In both cases, Hansi Flick hopes to meet with them to define the role they will have in the squad for the 25/26 season.
Hansi Flick will count on Pablo Torre, but will not guarantee him more minutes
And, unlike Ansu Fati, the only reason why the midfielder and the forward have not had more prominence has been due to the presence of other 'heavyweights' in the squad. For the player from Cantabria, the arrival of Dani Olmo and the return of Gavi was a practically impossible challenge to try to earn a place in the starting XI.
However, the coach will leave the decision to stay or leave in the hands of the players, speaking clearly about the role they will have if they decide to remain at the club. Beyond the commitment of the players in each training session, the talent available in the squad determines the possibility of having more or fewer minutes.
With Ansu, on the other hand, the attitude of the winger and the position of his environment have marginalized him from the institution's plans. Hence, giving him a letter of freedom looks like a sensible solution at this point.
