Andreas Christensen is one of Barça's possible discards for the 24/25 season. However, the Dane, without 'top' offers for the next market, prioritizes fulfilling his contract
FC Barcelona has serious doubts about the future of Andreas Christensen. The 29-year-old central defender has missed the entire season due to physical problems and, after his return to action at the end of April, he remains the last alternative in terms of central defenders for Hansi Flick. Therefore, he is one of the possible discards for 2025/26, but the Dane does not see his departure clearly.
In the last markets, the former Chelsea defender sounded strongly to return to England, but finally ruled out listening to offers. This season, a problem in the left Achilles tendon and another muscle injury kept him out of action for more than eight months. Even so, the '15' of Barcelona does not prioritize negotiating with other teams in the next transfer window.
Christensen hopes to earn a place in the pre-season
And the Dane, despite his eventful 24/25, is confident of fully recovering physically and being able to fight for a place in the pre-season that begins in mid-July. The defender knows that Hansi Flick rewards hard work and is willing to make a great effort to once again be considered as one of the first options when it comes to central defenders.
If Eric García finally decides to leave in the summer and Ronald Araujo also decides to accept a 'top' offer in England or Italy, Christensen will have many more options to stay to cover Pau Cubarsí and Iñigo Martínez. This is even if Barça finally signs Jonathan Tah.
The board will leave the future in the hands of the Martorell native and the Uruguayan, as both have the coach's confidence in the long term. With Andreas, however, the club would prefer a transfer next summer, considering that this will be his last year of contract and, for the moment, the option of renewing it is not on the table.
Barça prefers to cash in with Andreas Christensen
The player from Lillerød has played 77 official matches with Barcelona in which he has scored 4 goals and 3 assists, being an important part of the team that won LaLiga and the Spanish Super Cup in 2023. However, the Blaugrana team is committed to closing a transfer in the order of 10-12 million euros.
Despite his prolonged inactivity, the market value of Andreas Christensen has not suffered a significant drop (it is listed in the order of 15 'kilos') and, although having only one year of contract to fulfill may condition his sale price, Barça is committed to an immediate exit to free up salary mass.
At the moment, there are no concrete offers for the Dane, but his card is still well valued in the five major European leagues. Hence, in June, there will probably be an approach between the board and the defender to define his contractual situation and future. The '15' arrived in 2022 at 'zero cost' and has always had a positive attitude to try to help the club.
