The imminent signing of Marcus Rashford by Barça definitively closes the Blaugrana door to Luis Díaz. These are the reasons that kept the Colombian away from Catalonia

Finally, FC Barcelona will not make a new effort to try to sign Luis Díaz this summer. The 28-year-old winger was willing to wait for a Blaugrana offer, but will finally have to look for other alternatives to leave Anfield Road this summer.

The 'Guajiro' has a contract until 2027 and remains an important piece for coach Arne Slot. However, the signing of Hugo Ekitike for 95 million euros, the second big 'red' signing of the summer market after Florian Wirtz (135 'kilos') seems to open the door for the Colombian to leave.

Beyond this scenario, Barça has taken other market priorities after the non-signing of Nico Williams. The player from Barracas seemed to be the first option valued by Deco and Joan Laporta, but several reasons kept him away from Catalonia.

1. Liverpool will not lower the price of Luis Díaz this summer

Firstly, Liverpool, beyond the need to raise funds to balance the books, insists on receiving at least 80 million for Díaz. An excessive price for the culés finances, as the club was not planning to spend more than 60-65 'kilos' this year on another left winger.

The 'reds' have not even considered offers close to 70 M€ and Barça pointed to Manchester to reinforce their attack. 'Lucho', meanwhile, has started pre-season with Arne Slot's side, waiting for offers to change scenery in 25726.

2. The tension between 'Lucho' and Liverpool conditions the negotiation

In that sense, the relationship between the 'cafetero' striker and Liverpool has also weighed heavily on the way those from Merseyside have approached negotiations for his possible departure.

The fans did not take Luis' absence at Diogo Jota's funeral well, especially when the 27-year-old player was seen at an influencer event in his country on the day of the Portuguese player's burial.

Although the parties seem destined to accept an amicable separation this summer, Liverpool insists on obtaining the maximum possible benefit from the sale of the Colombian. And the winger, aware of possible accusations of 'betrayal' from the 'red' brotherhood, prefers to handle everything related to his departure discreetly, leaving a high sum in the red coffers.

3. Bayern is willing to offer more money than Barça for Luis Díaz

At the moment, Bayern Munich is the team most interested in signing Luis Díaz. The Bavarians presented a first offer for 67 million euros that was quickly rejected by Liverpool.

After the injury of Jamal Musiala (he will be out of action for the rest of 2025) and the departures of Leroy Sané and Thomas Müller, Bayern also set the incorporation of a left winger as a market priority.

Barça, seeing that the Munich team was willing to put 70 'kilos' or more on the table for the '7' of Liverpool, ruled out entering a bid in which it was not convenient to participate. At least not this summer, where the club is still short of cash and exceeded in its salary margin.

4. Marcus Rashford was able to convince United to accept a loan

Finally, the factor that ended up convincing the Barça board to rule out the Colombian winger was having a free path to sign Marcus Rashford. Unlike the Colombian, the English winger was able to convince his club to accept favorable economic conditions for the culés interests.

The English international agreed to lower his salary by 15%, with which he will bill around 14 million euros gross in 25/26. Although Barça will assume all of his emoluments, it will not have to pay an extra differential to Manchester United.

And, although the loan includes a purchase option for 30 'kilos' in 2026, this is not mandatory, although it is conditioned to various performance variables of the striker.

In this way, the Blaugrana team ended up signing a left winger with the profile that Hansi Flick was looking for: fast, goalscorer, versatile and experienced, spending a quarter of the budget planned for it (60 'kilos').

Luis Díaz, meanwhile, is aiming for Germany to take another leap in quality in his career. The Bavarians can offer him a winning project where he arrives to be an undisputed starter, at least while Jamal Musiala recovers. In Barcelona, on the other hand, he would have had much more competition to start the course in the XI.
