Rodrygo and Vinicius, for sale: The end of an era at Real Madrid?

Real Madrid has put two of its Brazilian stars on the market, but no big club seems willing to pay what the 'Casa Blanca' is asking for Rodrygo and Vinicius

Real Madrid's board has a very serious 'soap opera' to resolve this summer. In addition to the already known break between the club and Rodrygo Goes, things are not going well with Vinicius Jr. either. The '7', with a poor performance in the Club World Cup, has also been included in the club's list of transferable players, as his renewal has stalled.

According to the latest information, Florentino Pérez is not willing to accept 'Vini's' demands to match his salary with that of Kylian Mbappé. The South American winger currently earns 15 million euros net per year, while 'Kiki' signed last summer for 23 'kilos' net, 8 M€ more than the Brazilian.

In that sense, the one from Sao Gonçalo, whose contract ends in 2027, feels relegated to a secondary place, beyond being one of the club's references. Vinicius was a key figure in the last two Champions League won by Madrid, but his performance dropped significantly in recent months.

Real Madrid runs out of offers for Vinicius

The '7' closed the 24/25 season with 22 goals and 19 assists in 58 games, similar records to the previous year (24G/11A), but with a significant number of more appearances (19). However, the 25-year-old striker was far from decisive in key league matches (such as the Clásicos against Barça), Champions League (the quarter-final tie against Arsenal) and the KO phase of the Club World Cup.

In principle, Real maintains its release clause at 1,000 million and will hardly accept offers below 150 M, considering that the winger is still listed for around 170 'kilos' in Transfermarkt.

A price that no 'top' club in Europe is willing to pay this year. The only market open for 'Vini' is that of Arabia, but in a season prior to the World Cup this scenario is totally ruled out for the finalist for the 2024 Ballon d'Or.

Madrid, for its part, keeps the door open to renew him, but not for a contract similar to that of Mbappé. The Frenchman, according to what is established in his contract, earns the same as Vinicius (15 M€ net), but thanks to the 40 million set as a signing bonus, at a rate of 8 M€ per year, his emoluments go up to 46 'kilos' gross.

With Rodrygo, there are more options for Madrid

In the case of Rodrygo, the 'Casa Blanca' has set his departure at 90 million net. A lower price than 'Vini's', but equally prohibitive for the vast majority of European clubs. The '11' sounded like an option for Liverpool, but the 'reds' opted for Hugo Ekitike to complete their lethal attack, with Florian Wirtz and Mohamed Salah.

Manchester City has also been mentioned as a possible destination for the Osasco native, but for now there are no formal contacts between the 'sky blue' team and the 'merengue' board. The one that has fully entered the bid for the 24-year-old striker is Tottenham.

The 'Spurs' do not plan to pay the 90 M€ that Madrid is asking for Rodrygo and are aiming for a loan in which they assume the entirety of his salary. However, various media assure that the Paulista player demands to increase his emoluments to about 12 million net to accept this escape route. His contract ends in 2028, one year after Vinicius, with the same clause value.

The Tottenham option, for the moment, does not quite convince the '11', since the Londoners will not play in European competitions in 25/26. In any case, Xabi Alonso prioritizes the departure of the winger, since with Franco Mastantuono in the squad he will have less prominence from the start of the season.
