Roony Bardghji, Barça's second signing for the 25/26 season

Roony Bardghji will soon sign with Barça. The Swede will join the first team on Sunday and will undergo preseason training with Hansi Flick's team

After a couple of weeks of negotiations with Copenhagen, FC Barcelona is set to complete the signing of Roony Bardghji. The 19-year-old forward arrives for a fee of €2 million, and the Danish club will retain a 15% sell-on clause for a future sale.

Barça managed to close the deal for a fee lower than his market value (€7.5 million) by taking advantage of two factors: on one hand, the player's soon-to-expire contract, as he was signed with Copenhagen until December of this year.

Additionally, the physical issues that affected Bardghji's performance helped lower his price. Last season, the right winger played just 6 matches (243 minutes) due to a torn cruciate ligament suffered in May 2024.

This factor caused Barça to postpone his signing until all the necessary medical tests were carried out to confirm the condition of his right knee. Finally, the Swedish international has received the 'ok' from the doctors and will join the first-team squad this Sunday.

What are Hansi Flick's plans for Roony Bardghji?

In this regard, Hansi Flick will count on Roony for the entire preseason, including the Asian tour, where Barça will play three friendlies in Japan and South Korea. Depending on the forward's performance in the coming weeks, the manager will decide whether or not to include him in the squad for the 25/26 season.

Bardghji's role would be to serve as a backup for Lamine Yamal on the right wing, although the 19-year-old can also play as an attacking midfielder or a central striker. Raphinha will also rotate on the wing with the new Blaugrana '10', when the coaching staff decides to manage his minutes.

If Roony does not perform at a high level during the preseason, Barça does not plan to send him to the reserve team. With the team in the Segunda RFEF (the fourth tier of Spanish football), it would not be an ideal environment for the Swedish player to gain the match fitness and confidence needed to return to his best form.

Therefore, the board would consider a straight loan to another LaLiga club, likely Mallorca, which has already closed a deal with the Blaugrana side this summer for the transfer of Pablo Torre.

For Barça, the signing of Roony Bardghji is a strategic move. He is one of the main 'gems' of Swedish football, at just 19 years old and with significant room for growth. Although his ligament tear prevented the club from signing him last summer, Joan Laporta and Deco have maintained their commitment to the Kuwait-born player this year.
