Wojciech Szczesny will soon sign his renewal with Barça. The Polish player will sign for one season, plus another optional one, despite knowing he will be a substitute in 25/26

Calendar of FC Barcelona

The FC Barcelona board hopes to resolve the renewal of Wojciech Szczesny next week. The Polish player was one of the great surprises of 2024/25 with Hansi Flick's team, leaving very good feelings during the second half of the season.

In total, 'Tek' played 30 games in which he conceded 36 goals. However, he completed 14 clean sheets and adapted very well to the Azulgrana scheme, which prioritizes a very advanced defensive line during the 90 minutes.

The Polish player returned from retirement in October and managed to win the affection of the dressing room and the fans with his low profile, tranquility and experience to deal with the pressure of a very demanding calendar. Hence, the board and the coaching staff did not hesitate to bet on his continuity.

In principle, Szczesny will sign again for one season, with the option to stay one more year, until 2027, according to his performance in 25/26. In principle, the 35-year-old goalkeeper will be a substitute for Joan García, the first culé reinforcement for the next season.

Barça will renew Szczesny after the announcement of Joan García

In that sense, Barça has preferred to close the incorporation of the Catalan goalkeeper before addressing the signing of 'Tek's' new contract. The transfer of the '1' from Espanyol only awaits the 'Ok' from LaLiga, as the Azulgrana team already signed the contract of the player from Sallent last Tuesday, while the payment of his clause (25 million euros) was made on Friday.

Unless there is a surprise, LaLiga must approve the transfer documentation on Monday, although the team is not yet back in the 1:1 rule of the financial 'Fair Play'. Once García's signing is official, it will be 'Tek's' turn to secure his future.

The renewal of the Polish player, however, poses a big problem for Marc-André ter Stegen. The German sees himself relegated, for the first time in a decade, to a secondary role and the club prefers to resolve his departure, even giving him a letter of freedom.

The same happens with Iñaki Peña, although the player from Alicante knew he was sentenced several months ago. The Spanish goalkeeper aims to continue his career in LaLiga, with a transfer that will leave around 10 million euros in the culé coffers.

Szczesny rests in Marbella, while waiting for the call from Barça

Meanwhile. 'Tek' Szczesny rests with his family in Marbella. The player from Warsaw is taking advantage of the culé holidays to dedicate himself to one of his passions, golf and waits for the call from the Azulgrana board to extend his contract.

At the end of 24/25, the Polish player made it clear that his wife would be the one to make the decision about his future. Well, the '25' and his family have already decided to stay in Barcelona, where the experienced goalkeeper has enjoyed a great first year.
