Despite interest from various European clubs, Ter Stegen would only consider leaving if Barça pays him the three years of contract he has left as a Blaugrana player
The complex situation that Marc-André Ter Stegen is currently going through at FC Barcelona does not seem to be close to being resolved. Furthermore, in the event of a departure, it would apparently only happen under his conditions.
In principle, everything seems to indicate that the German will be the third goalkeeper of the Catalan team if he ends up staying after the arrival of Joan García and the possible renewal of Wojciech Szczęsny.
In this sense, according to recent rumors, Barça would prefer the 33-year-old goalkeeper to leave the club in order to continue reducing the wage bill, but Ter Stegen has remained firm in his position of not wanting to change teams.
The Barça '1' believes that he can compete with anyone for the starting position under the goal. Also. He would be very upset by how the Blaugrana entity is managing his situation.
Ter Stegen would leave if he is paid what is left of his contract
Rumors also suggest that Barça would be waiting for Marc to soften his financial demands, something that would be far from becoming a reality due to the '1''s discontent.
Similarly, the goalkeeper would only consider a transfer if he reaches an agreement with the club where the latter guarantees him the entirety of the three years (2028) remaining on his contract.
The signing of Joan García, who signed until 2031 as a culé player, would also not have fully pleased the German goalkeeper who used to be the starter.
Ter Stegen, in the sights of several major European clubs
It is no wonder that the name of 'MATS' is related to several important teams from the old continent, such as Manchester United, Chelsea or AS Monaco. The German's quality supports every interest that has apparently arisen for him in recent days.
Thus, the last to probe the native of Mönchengladbach would have been the Principality team, which apparently likes Marc's qualities a lot. Furthermore, Monaco does not have a fixed goalkeeper, since in the 2024/25 season the Swiss-German goalkeeper Philipp Köhn and the Polish Radoslaw Majecki shared the custody of the goal.
For its part, Chelsea, despite having the Spaniard Robert Sánchez and the former Villarreal player Filip Jørgensen, would be interested in adding another goalkeeper to their squad.
It is also expected that Jørgensen will leave the 'Blue' team in this market on loan.
As for Manchester United, a possible incorporation of Ter Stegen depends more on the situation of André Onana, who has the support of technical director Rúben Amorim, but he would like to incorporate another quality goalkeeper like Ter Stegen.
Manchester City would also be aware of 'MATS', since their goalkeeper Ederson has a contract until the summer of 2026 and has not yet renewed.
