Jean-Clair Todibo has become a real gold mine for Barça. With his imminent transfer to West Ham, the 'culés' will add another 8 M€
FC Barcelona is preparing to receive another good sum for Jean-Clair Todibo. The 25-year-old central defender will become West Ham's first summer reinforcement, a club that has decided to pay his release clause after a one-year loan in which the French international played 27 Premier League games (21 as a starter).
In total, the operation between West Ham and Nice, the club that owns 80% of his sports rights, will close for 40 million euros. Barça will keep 20% of the transfer, that is, 8 'kilos' that will round off a total of 19 M€ net in earnings.
The 'culés' signed the Frenchman in January 2019 for just 1 million euros. The then youth player from Toulouse only played 5 games (4 as a starter) with the first team, but won a League title during the year he was in Catalonia (in January 2020 he went on loan to Shalke).

Barça recovered its initial investment for Jean-Clair in the first half of 2021, with a six-month loan to the German Schalke. There he only played 10 games and, in the midst of the covid-19 pandemic, the Frenchman left for Benfica.
The Portuguese had to pay 2 'kilos' for a loan that was a fiasco, as Todibo only played a couple of games due to physical problems. For this reason, he had to return to Barcelona in January 2021, but Nice appeared at the last minute of the winter market.
Upon returning to his country, the defender returned to his best version and the French team ended up paying 8.7 million euros for his transfer in the summer of that year. After three and a half seasons in which he played 136 games, West Ham signed him last summer and, this year, will close his purchase for 40 'kilos', 15 M€ above his current value in Transfermarkt.
In this way, Barça secures 19 million euros net in earnings six and a half years after a transfer that went under the radar in early 2019 and has been an unexpected gold mine for the 'azulgrana' team.

What awaits Jean-Clair Todibo at West Ham? After a season in which he played 29 games (1,968 minutes), 23 of them as a starter, the player from Cayenne seeks to consolidate himself in Graham Potter's scheme for the next season.
Beyond completing a good year, Didier Deschamps did not take him into account for the 'final four' of the Nations League. Clément Lenglet (Atlético) won the position, but the 25-year-old central defender has not lost hope of returning in the coming months and earning his place in the next World Cup.
Todibo, for now, has not played in any major tournament with France (World Cup, European Championship), although he has been included in some call-ups, even playing a couple of official matches after his debut in September 2023.
