Weston McKennie could be one of the bargains of the upcoming summer transfer market. The American's contract ends in 2026, and FC Barcelona could take advantage of his situation at Juventus
FC Barcelona is keeping an eye on Weston McKennie. The American international could become one of the surprises of the upcoming summer transfer market, being one of the best midfielders in Europe this season with Juventus. The 26-year-old player is valued at around 24 million euros on Transfermarkt, but his contract runs until 2026 and his exit price could be a genuine bargain that is hard to resist for Barça and other giants in Europe.
Born in Texas, he is a very versatile midfielder, as he can easily play as a pivot, central midfielder, or winger on both sides. He can even adapt to the role of center-back, as a libero in a three-man backline or helping out as a full-back. Beyond being a defensive player, he also contributes significantly in attack thanks to his speed and striking ability. In the 24/25 season, he has scored 5 goals and provided 3 assists in 28 matches (1,839 minutes) with Thiago Motta's team. 3 of his goals have come in the Champions League.
Juventus will make a final effort to renew McKennie
In this regard, Juve has not lost hope of renewing his contract before the season ends. McKennie arrived in Turin in 2020 from Schalke 04 for 4.5 million euros. After a couple of loan spells back to Schalke and to Leeds United, he returned to Italy in 2023 and has since established himself in the first team of the 'bianconeri', with whom he has scored 18 goals and provided 18 assists in 162 official matches.
If they fail to convince him to renew, the 'Vecchia Signora' will have no choice but to listen to offers for the American, given the possibility of losing him for free in 2026. A transfer in the region of 20 'kilos' could be a fantastic gift for a Barcelona that is still uncertain about the continuity of Frenkie de Jong, but is looking to recover Marc Bernal during preseason, in addition to continuing with Marc Casadó.
