Marcus Rashford does not lose hope of joining FC Barcelona in January. The winger has no place at Manchester United and will make a final effort to secure his departure

Calendar of FC Barcelona

The future of Marcus Rashford is a genuine headache for Manchester United. Coach Rubén Amorim does not count on him for the second half of the 2024-25 season and his high salary (20 million euros gross per year) prevents the club from seeking urgently needed reinforcements. With a week to go before the winter transfer market closes, the winger and the club are looking for a solution to the 'soap opera' that could be highly beneficial for FC Barcelona.

The winger was offered to the Catalan team since late 2024, but the Catalans have not managed to make room for the English international due to the stance of several of their 'discarded'. Players like Ansu Fati, Pablo Torre, or even Andreas Christensen could facilitate the arrival of the United's '10', but all three insist on staying in Barcelona despite knowing they will be substitutes for the rest of the season.

In this sense, Barça has not insisted too much on these operations, as the board does not intend to manage forced departures. In fact, Hansi Flick himself has made it clear that he is satisfied with the current squad, halting the departure of Eric García, who had practically secured his return to Girona. Even Pau Víctor, another of the 'marginalized' from the first team, also does not seem to be on track to leave in the final stretch of the winter transfer window.

Rashford's plan to force his arrival at Barcelona

However, this does not mean that Barça has given up on Rashford. The club is already within the 1:1 in terms of 'Fair Play', which allows it to sign without restrictions. However, the salary of the United winger is too high for the Barça salary cap, unless a 'heavyweight' (like Ansu) leaves. That is why the 27-year-old forward is willing to negotiate a significant salary reduction in the coming days, an operation that would facilitate his arrival in Catalonia.

If this scenario materializes, Manchester would also have to bear a majority percentage of the '10's salary, but considerably less than the 10 million net he currently earns. At Barça, Marcus will not have a guaranteed spot in the XI, but he will be an important piece in the offensive scheme of a Flick willing to recover the best version of the English attacker. In the coming days, everything could turn in favor of the interests of a Barcelona capable of adding more firepower to its already lethal attack.
