Xavi Hernández left Barça abruptly. However, his idea of the game has helped other clubs to be interested in his services
It seems that Xavi Hernández's return to the bench as technical director is far from being finalized. In this sense, after being dismissed as coach of FC Barcelona in May 2024, the man from Egara has not returned to manage another team.
It is no secret that Xavi's departure from Barça was abrupt. In this sense, the coach left a mark of two titles: a League and a Spanish Super Cup won 1-3 against Real Madrid, but falling twice to the UEFA Europa League, something that marked his cycle as coach of the Blaugrana team.
However, under his direction, players such as Lamine Yamal, Fermín López, Marc Casadó and Pau Cubarsí made the leap to the first team, consolidating themselves today as key pieces in the tactical structure of the now Barça technical director Hansi Flick. His legacy, beyond the results, is measured in the impulse to a new generation that embodies the Barça DNA.
Xavi managed Barça in 143 matches, recording 91 wins, 23 draws and 29 defeats, representing an effectiveness of 68%. Similarly, under his orders the Blaugrana team scored 274 goals and conceded 155. He arrived in November 2021 and left in May last year, that is, after two and a half seasons.
In this context, thanks to what Xavi did at Barcelona, several teams would have shown the intention to want to incorporate him to take the reins, but so far, apparently, nothing has convinced the coach and his future remains in the air.
From the Premier League to Serie A are interested in Xavi
Rumors suggest that both Manchester United and Juventus of Turin sounded out the 45-year-old coach, but the alleged negotiations never advanced.
In this context, the Saudi Pro League would also have shown interest in Xavi, but none of the offers had convinced the coach. Although the Saudi league wants to fill its teams with galactic incorporations, either for the bench or to play, none of this would have excited the former Barça coach.
Another team with which the former midfielder was linked was Bayer Leverkusen, but everything has remained in simple noise, because he is about to start his second consecutive year without managing.
Xavi Hernández as national coach: A real possibility?
Apparently, Xavi would also like the idea of becoming the technical director of a national team. However, the native of Terrasa would like to calmly evaluate any proposal that comes his way to return to the bench.
Xavi's work at Barça gave way to what the team did in the 2024/25 season. The coach's bets were strengthened as fundamental players with whom Hansi Flick can now count on and continue to exploit in terms of talent.
Also, despite the fact that Xavi Hernández's future as a coach is not clear, there is still much ahead to know what the former player will do.
