FIFA held the The Best awards ceremony this Tuesday. In the women's category, Aitana Bonmatí revalidated the award obtained in 2023 and 2024 and becomes the top winner
Aitana Bonmatí made history this Tuesday by winning the FIFA The Best award. The star of FC Barcelona Femení, for the third consecutive year, took home the award and became the top winner, surpassing her teammate Alexia Putellas.
The 27-year-old player also achieved her 'hat-trick' this year with the 2025 Ballon d'Or and, as expected, once again dominated the FIFA The Best in a season where she won the Liga F and Spanish Super Cup titles with BarçaAitana was also chosen as the MVP of the last Eurocup and the UEFA Women's Champions League, although she did not manage to win either trophy after losing in the final.
Aitana Bonmatí absent from FIFA The Best dinner due to injury
The Barça midfielder, unfortunately, could not attend the winners' dinner in Doha, Qatar, due to the fracture of her left fibula which forced her to undergo surgery a couple of weeks ago, after injuring herself with Spain against Germany in the UEFA Nations League final, where La Roja won 3-0
This injury will keep Aitana out of action for approximately five months, meaning she will miss almost the rest of the 2025/26 season with Barça. Despite the emotional blow the injury represented, The Best award allows the Barça star to cap off another remarkable year as the undisputed best footballer on the planet.
"Thank you very much for the award. Very grateful to receive it. I was voted for by the players, coaches, and fans and I will enjoy it," Bonmatí began in the message sent to FIFA and the organization of The Best.
Likewise, she added: "I dedicate this award to all Barcelona fans. I hope to return as soon as possible and I am focused on my 100% recovery and eager to get back on the field," the Barça star pointed out.
Aitana expands her impressive individual trophy cabinet
With her third FIFA The Best award, the Barça academy graduate now has 11 individual accolades at the world elite level. In addition to three consecutive Ballon d'Or awards, the Barça midfielder was also named World's Best Player by the IFFHS in 2023 and 2024, the latter year in which she also received the Laureus Award
She also won the Golden Ball at the senior World Cup in 2023 and the award for Best Player in Europe in 2023 from UEFA. With Barça, she currently has accumulated 19 official titles, including 6 Leagues and 3 Champions Leagues, in addition to another 6 Queen's Cups and 5 Spanish Super Cups.
With the Spanish national team, he also won the U-19 and U-17 European Championships, in addition to the senior World Cup and two UEFA Nations Leagues. The only title missing from his impressive record, for now, is the senior European Championship.
