FC Barcelona Women is beginning to shape its sports project for the 2025/26 season with the renewal of two key players: Marta Torrejón and Gemma Font. While Torrejón, second captain and club legend, will remain linked for one more season, goalkeeper Font has extended her contract for two additional seasons.

On the first day of preseason for Barça Women led by Pere Romeu, both players have confirmed their continuity, demonstrating the Blaugrana club's commitment to maintaining a solid backbone to face new sporting challenges. The renewals have been made official on a day marked by the absence of players called up by their national teams for the European Championship.

Defender Marta Torrejón will continue wearing the Blaugrana jersey for another season. At 35 years old, the player from Mataró will play her thirteenth season with the team, establishing herself as a historic figure in women's football.

With 465 official matches played so far—tied in appearances with the emblematic Alexia Putellas—Torrejón has already scored 72 goals, making her the highest-scoring defender in the history of Barça Women.

Her goal-scoring and defensive contribution has been key to accumulating an impressive record with 30 titles: three Champions Leagues, eight League titles, eight Copa de la Reina, five Spanish Super Cups, and six Copa Catalunya. During the past season, Torrejón participated in 32 matches, scoring three goals, including a decisive one that brought the team closer to the league title.

Gemma Font, a safe bet between the posts

The renewal of Gemma Font is another strategic move by Barça Women to ensure stability in the goal. The Catalan goalkeeper, 25 years old, has extended her contract until June 2027, guaranteeing her presence for two more seasons.

Since her debut in the 2018/19 season, Font has gained prominence year after year. In the 2024/25 season, she played eight official matches—seven in the League and one in the Copa Catalunya—, conceding only two goals and establishing herself as the second option after Cata Coll.

Font's record is also impressive: she already has a total of 21 trophies, including three Champions Leagues, six League titles, four Copas de la Reina, five Spanish Super Cups, and two Copa Catalunya. With this renewal, Barça secures a young but experienced goalkeeper for the upcoming seasons.

Start of the Barça Women's preseason with notable absences

This Monday, under the orders of Pere Romeu, Barça Women officially began the 2025/26 preseason at the Ciutat Esportiva Joan Gamper with only eight players available, due to the numerous international call-ups for the European Championship.

The players present were Gemma Font, Txell Font, Lucía Corrales, María León, Marta Torrejón, Emilka Szimczak, Aïcha Cámara, and Clara Serrajordi, who underwent various medical and physical tests, including clinical analyses, electrocardiograms, nutritional, dental, and podological evaluations, as well as strength and physiotherapy tests.

The first official training session will take place this Tuesday at 9:30 AM, waiting for the rest of the squad to return progressively after their international commitments. With these movements and preparations, Barça Women confirms its ambition to continue dominating Spanish and European women's football.
