Barça Women could not achieve the three-peat in the UEFA Women's Champions League after falling to Arsenal (1-0)

Calendar of FC Barcelona

FC Barcelona Women were on the verge of their fourth crown in the UEFA Women's Champions League and the third in a row after falling in Lisbon against Arsenal (1-0).

A lone goal from Swedish forward Stina Blackstenius in the 74th minute was enough for Renée Slegers' team to lift their second Champions League, the first in 18 years, and break with the culé hegemony in the tournament.

Saturday was Barça's fifth consecutive final and the sixth in their history, accumulating so far a balanced record, with three wins and three losses. Against Arsenal, Pere Romeu's team had more possession and chances, but lacked clarity and aim to break the deadlock.

The 'gunners', on the other hand, were better physically and tactically, with a very effective low block to prevent the arrivals of Aitana Bonmatí and Alexia Putellas. Then, in attack, they made better use of their few arrivals to break Cata Coll's resistance.

Barça Women remain with three Champions Leagues, still far from Arsenal

In this way, Barça Women continue alone in third place among the teams with the most titles in the UEFA Women's Champions League. The Catalans have three trophies, one less than Eintracht Frankfurt (4) and still far from Olympique Lyon.

The French team, clear dominators of the trophy in the previous decade, have 8 titles, two of them against Barça in the finals of 2020 and 2022. The culés, however, took revenge last season with a 2-0 victory in Bilbao.

For its part, Arsenal equals the line of Wolfsburg, Umea IK (Sweden) and FFC Turbine Postdam (Germany), with a couple of titles. In 24/25, Barça already won the Liga F and still has to play the final of the Copa de la Reina, on June 7 against Atlético de Madrid.
