Barça was 2 minutes away from sealing their 9th comeback of 24/25, one that was worth a place in the Champions League final. What was missing to get to Munich?
Hansi Flick's FC Barcelona fell on Tuesday in Milan against Inter (4-3) in another incredible match that had comebacks from both sides. The Blaugrana gave everything for the victory, but they were just 2 minutes away from the Munich final and ended up losing in extra time as a result of two defensive errors and Yann Sommer's saves.
After having a two-goal disadvantage we have seen this season's Barcelona... Winning 4-5 against Benfica, 2-4 against Atleti and 4-3 against Celta, drawing 4-4 against Atleti and drawing 3-3 against Inter…. Without forgetting the Copa del Rey final, where the team drew in the 84th minute after losing 1-2 and ended up winning the title in extra time.
Well, the scenario at the Giuseppe Meazza was, without a doubt, terrifying after the break. A 2-0 deficit, with an Inter invincible at home this season in Europe, a crowd backing their team and a clearly biased refereeing in favor of the locals. But Flick's Barça should never be written off and came close to an epic comeback on another incredible night.
Eric García made us believe that the comeback was possible
In the 54th minute, Gerard Martín found enough time and space to deliver a perfect cross from the left. The '35' saw Eric García alone on the other side and the '24' shot first time with a remarkable technical gesture to make it 1-2 and unleash the Blaugrana madness.

And, after the discount, the team, the fans and the 'nerazzurri' themselves knew what was coming. Barça came close to equalizing a couple of minutes later, again with Gerard assisting Eric to culminate a fantastic counter-attack from the 'culés', but Sommer made a great save to prevent the Martorell native's double at point-blank range.
Dani Olmo put the tie on the table
However, the Inter resistance soon fell. In the 60th minute, again with the Italian defense sunk near the small area, Martín was able to cross behind the central defenders. This time, Dani Olmo fell free on the right, heading in after anticipating Nicoló Barella.

In a flurry of six minutes and after a quarter of an hour of Catalan siege, Barcelona equalized the match and the tie, just as they did in the first half in Montjuïc. The match dropped a bit in intensity in the rest of the complement, but the 'culés', more physically whole, consummated the comeback before the end.
Raphinha completed an incredible comeback
In the 87th minute, a steal by Pedri allowed the Canary Islander to filter a pass to Raphinha that the Brazilian, in a double chance, transformed into 2-3. The Brazilian, who had a discreet match until then, shot with his left foot and Sommer responded as he could, but the rebound fell back to the '11'. This time, the Porto Alegre native took a crossed shot, unleashing the madness on the 'culé' bench.

Barça, however, kept its scheme intact in search of the finishing touch, which was about to fall in the 92nd minute after a shot by Lamine at the base of the post. Everything seemed consummated for the ninth Blaugrana comeback of the season, the sweetest and most epic of an unforgettable year, but football is not always fair and logical.
...But Inter revived in added time and extra time
In the 90+3', a loss by Gerard Martín after a possible foul by Denzel Dumfries ended in a low cross from the Dutchman taken advantage of by Francesco Acerbi. The Italian appeared like a ghost between the central defenders to shoot Szczesny and send the match to extra time.

Already in extra time, the match was evened out as a result of the rest of a Barça that did all the spending after a brutal second half. In the 99th minute, Davide Frattesi made it 4-3 and, although Lamine and Lewandowski came close to equalizing in the last minutes, Inter took the victory and the qualification after a historic tie.
The aggregate was 7-6 for the Italians, but the 'culés' left Milan with their heads held high after a historic season that could end in a domestic treble (League, Copa del Rey and Supercopa).
All of Flick's Barcelona comebacks in 24/25
Barça kicked off the 2024/25 campaign with a 2-1 comeback against Valencia in the first round of the league. They then repeated the same pattern on Matchday 3 at Rayo Vallecano (1-2). This year, the team won its first title by overcoming an early goal from Kylian Mbappé in the Spanish Super Cup final against Real Madrid (2-5).
In the Champions League, the Catalans did the same to seal their qualification to the round of 16 by coming from behind against Benfica (4-5) in Lisbon, with three goals in the last 12 minutes and injury time. In La Liga, Atlético de Madrid lost to Barça on Matchday 28 despite leading 2-0 in the 70th minute. Celta Vigo suffered a similar fate on Matchday 32 after taking a 3-1 lead in the second half.
Finally, in the Copa del Rey, Flick's team celebrated again against Real Madrid (3-2) despite trailing 1-2 in the 84th minute. And, in the final match of La Liga, the team came from behind in the second half to defeat Valladolid (1-2). In total, there have been eight comebacks to win matches that most clubs in the world would have given up on.
