Robert Lewandowski worked out in the gym this Sunday and could be left out of Hansi Flick's squad for Tuesday's Guadalajara-Barcelona match, in the Copa del Rey round of 32
FC Barcelona debuts this Tuesday in the Copa del Rey 2025/26 against Deportivo Guadalajara of the Primera RFEF (9:00 PM CEST) in a match where massive rotations are expected in Hansi Flick's starting XI. The German coach will rest most of the usual starters and has one doubt in the squad: Robert Lewandowski.
The Pole was a substitute and did not play against Osasuna (2-0), a match he arrived at with **mild hamstring discomfort**. This was the second consecutive league match without minutes for the '9', who started against Eintracht (played 66 minutes) in a rather discreet performance
Flick could also rest Lewandowski in Copa del Rey
In principle, 'Lewy' is not suffering from a specific injury, but **Flick could leave him out, as a precaution**, from the Copa del Rey debut at the Estadio Pedro Escartín. The forward **has already missed four games this season due to muscular problems** and the coaching staff does not want to take risks in what will be Barça's last week of action this 2025
Five days after visiting Guadalajara, the Catalans will face Villarreal at the Estadio de la Cerámica (Sunday the 21st), the last match before the Christmas and New Year break. The coaching staff's objective is to have Lewandowski at his best for that game, against an opponent he has performed very well against since arriving in Spain
Robert has scored 5 goals in 6 matches against the 'Yellow Submarine', including a brace last season in the 1-5 away win at the start of the season. This Sunday, the 37-year-old forward trained in the gym, without stepping onto the Tito Vilanova pitch during the recovery session after the Osasuna match.
Robert Lewandowski's Records Raise Doubts About His Future
Lewandowski did not leave the Camp Nou happy on Saturday after his second league match without playing, although he understands that Flick wants to take care of him. For now, the '9' is Barça's second top scorer in the tournament with 8 goals, 3 less than Ferran Torres despite only having played 7 games as a starter.
'Lewy's' records in 25/26 are vastly different from what he achieved the previous season. The Pole has only scored 8 goals in 17 appearances (10 as a starter), whereas **at this point in 24/25 he had already accumulated 19 goals** in 17 matches.
Statistics increase the noise surrounding his possible departure at the end of the season, once his contract concludes, but the player and the club, for now, prefer to wait to discuss a potential renewal or farewell next summer
Several names are being considered by Barça as possible alternatives to Robert Lewandowski. However, the board and coaching staff prefer to wait until 2026 to make decisions, depending on the '9's performance in the second half of the season and the opportunities presented by the upcoming summer market.
In 24/25, 'Lewy' only started one Copa del Rey match (against Barbastro) and scored 3 goals. The forward missed the final against Real Madrid due to injury and also did not play against Betis and Valencia, in the round of 16 and quarterfinals, respectively. Will he play on Tuesday against Guadalajara
