Hansi Flick spoke to the press after Barça's victory against Las Palmas. The German stated that he was happy with the result, but not so much with his team's performance.
FC Barcelona will remain at the top of LaLiga for another matchday after achieving a crucial victory against UD Las Palmas in Gran Canaria (0-2). At the end of the match, and true to his style, a demanding Hansi Flick was self-critical when analyzing his team's victory, stating that he was satisfied with the result but not so much with the performance of his players.
"We didn't play a very good match. But we won 0-2 and that's fine. With the three points, the journey back is easier. At halftime, we explained to them what to do better in certain situations and discussed what wasn't being done as we wanted," the coach began.
"We are very happy with the three points, but not so much with our performance"
"The players did well. We are very happy with the three points, but not so much with our performance. It's normal for me to be tired. But we remain leaders in LaLiga. And in the end, we want to progress and be better," the German added.
Flick also spoke about the main shortcomings of his team in the match against the Canaries, revealing that "we lacked more control and the ball. We didn't play as we would have liked. We lost balls and had inaccuracies. In the first half, we had more problems than usual."
The contribution of the bench and Barça's 'hard-fought' six points
Upon returning from the locker room, Flick 'shook the tree' and the introductions of Dani Olmo and Ferran Torres turned out to be decisive for leaving the 'pío pío' ground with three points in hand. In this regard, the azulgrana coach stated that "the changes worked. That's what the bench players are for. They contribute a lot to us."
The German was also questioned about Barça's last two victories (1-0 vs Rayo; 0-2 vs Las Palmas), in which his team has 'suffered' more than expected. Regarding this, the coach stated that "those are six points in the last two matches and that's good. It's normal for us to be tired, but we are happy because we remain leaders and that's a good situation. We know we can improve and that we have to keep improving."
Dani Olmo and the clean sheet
About the performance of Dani Olmo, MVP of the match, the German maintained that "the goal is very important, for us and for him. He hasn't played more before because he was injured and also the others were a bit better in terms of fitness. We are happy for him. It was a good goal for him. And also for Ferran, who also came off the bench. Everyone was also involved in defense, and we kept a clean sheet again, and that's good."
Finally, regarding Barça's clean sheet, the fourth in the last five matches, Flick commented that "everyone has their responsibility in their area. The four center-backs we have, the full-backs… Casadó had a good game today, Pedri is incredible… everyone is at a good level."
