Ter Stegen's days at Can Barça could be numbered, even though his aspirations are different. After the arrival of Joan García, the waters stirred in the 'culé' goal.
Marc-André ter Stegen's future at FC Barcelona is uncertain. In principle, the German goalkeeper would not be interested in leaving the Catalan team despite the fierce competition he faces for the starting position under the 'culé' goal.
The arrival of Joan García, plus the possible renewal of Wojciech Szczesny, mean that at least Ter Stegen has to rethink his situation, but according to the latest rumors, so far nothing has made the '1' think about changing scenery.
Ter Stegen was the starting goalkeeper until he suffered a complete rupture of the patellar tendon in his right knee on September 22 against Villarreal on matchday 6 of LaLiga 2024/25.
After this, Barcelona incorporated Szczesny, while Iñaki Peña covered the goal. The Polish goalkeeper ended up taking the starting position, despite the good performances of the player from Alicante and the return of Ter Stegen at the end of the season.
Ter Stegen wants to be Germany's starter in the 2025 World Cup
Meanwhile, the goalkeeper would be thinking that he can recover his best level and get into the starting XI for 'blaugrana'. In addition, he does not want to lose minutes under the 'culé' goal, since next year is the World Cup and he wants to arrive in optimal conditions to play with Germany.

In this way, the native of Mönchengladbach aspires to convince Hansi Flick that he should be the starter, a task that will not be easy, since Joan García was one of the best goalkeepers in LaLiga during the 2024/25 season and Flick also trusts Szczesny a lot.
In this context, Galatasaray of the Turkish Super League would be very interested in having Ter Stegen if he ends up leaving Barcelona. The Turks currently want the player to terminate his contract so as not to pay a transfer fee, while they see him as the ideal replacement for Fernando Muslera.
Flick will decide what to do with Ter Stegen
According to the latest rumors, from the sports management of Barça, Ter Stegen is no longer considered an untouchable player in the 'azulgrana' team, something that would have bothered Marc-André Ter Stegen.
In this sense, Deco gave statements to 'La Vanguardia', where he openly explained that decisions are made for the team and that they do not have to talk to Marc to explain the situation.
"I don't have to talk to him. My obligation is to make the best possible team for the coach. This is not up to me. Furthermore, there is no contract that says you are going to play. From here, it is the coach who makes his decisions and each player then has his ambitions", said the sports director.
Deco also maintained that they will not force the departure of Ter Stegen, whom he says he has great respect for. For his part, the goalkeeper is already 33 years old and does not want to lose prominence.
He also pointed out that the decision to go for Joan García was thinking about the present and future of the club, in addition to the fact that the coach is the one who makes the decisions. "I have great respect for Marc, but with Joan we had to make a decision for the present and the future. The coach, then, will have to decide."
This is how everything is in the hands of Hansi Flick, who will have to tell the goalkeeper whether or not he is counting on him. A decision that will probably not be easy considering that the '1' is already considered a club legend.
