The club considers it unlikely that the 2025 Gamper will be played at the Camp Nou. The schedule is tight, and plan B is already on the table.
Bad news for FC Barcelona. The Catalan team is finding it increasingly difficult to celebrate the 2025 Joan Gamper Trophy, a match scheduled for August 10 at the Spotify Camp Nou.
Despite the progress of the works at the Culé stadium, there is no certainty about whether the Barcelona City Council, which recently granted the first Activities and Works license for the Spotify Camp Nou, can approve the First Occupancy License in such a short time.
- 📌 DATA: According to the Què T’hi Jugues program on SER Catalunya, the Barcelona team has not yet submitted the necessary documentation to the Barcelona City Council to obtain the required license to host events at its stadium.
Barça's challenge now is to open the Spotify Camp Nou for the first match of LaLiga EA Sports 2025/26, which Hansi Flick's team will play at home on September 14 against Valencia CF. For that date, sources from the Catalan club see the match as more viable, with all the necessary guarantees and permits to reopen the mythical Culé home after two seasons of exile in Montjuïc.
Barcelona will know this week if they can play the 2025 Gamper at the Camp Nou
The final decision, in any case, will be known between Thursday and Friday of this week. However, expectations regarding the reopening of the Spotify Camp Nou for the 2025 Gamper are, to say the least, pessimistic.
It is worth remembering that Barcelona had planned to play its usual pre-season friendly with an attendance of between 62,000 and 65,000 spectators, distributed between the First and Second Stands.
Later, due to complications in the works, FC Barcelona proposed the option of holding the Gamper with a maximum capacity of 30,000 to 32,000 people, opening only the Main Stand and the South Goal of the Spotify Camp Nou, but not the North Goal or the Side Stand, whose accesses are less advanced. However, the City Council is not willing to accept this sectorization, as it was not part of the initial plan.
"To grant this partial first occupancy license, because it would be the one that fits phase one, it is necessary that the works of this first phase have been completed. The works are still underway and it is not our place to say whether the club will be able to play the Gamper," warned the first deputy mayor of Barcelona, Laia Bonet, recently.

Estadi Johan Cruyff, plan B if Barça cannot play the Gamper at the Camp Nou
At this point, it only remains to be seen whether the City Council approves or not the First Occupancy License for the Spotify Camp Nou that allows the Joan Gamper Trophy to be played. If it is not approved, Barcelona will have to evaluate other options to celebrate this traditional match.
With Montjuïc ruled out —as it will be occupied by a Blackpink K-pop concert on August 9— the expectation is that Barça will play the match at the Estadi Johan Cruyff, home of Barça Femení, with a capacity of only 6,000 spectators.
