Closer to the 1:1 rule! The Barça board approves a guarantee of €7M: what does it mean?

Great news for FC Barcelona in its goal of operating as soon as possible under the 1:1 rule in LaLiga. The board of directors of the Azulgrana team unanimously approved this Wednesday a guarantee of €7M to cover the budgetary imbalance generated by the sections, if necessary.

This decision, taken after a meeting of just over an hour, was presented by the president of the Catalan team, Joan Laporta, and represents a key step to close the accounts for the 2024/25 season. It should not be forgotten that this gap of €7M was one of the points to be corrected so that the club could present a completely balanced balance sheet to LaLiga, as has been negotiated in recent weeks.

LaLiga and the key approval of the VIP seat operation

Also, according to various sources, the option of requesting another guarantee to register players was also analyzed in the same meeting. However, this would not be necessary if LaLiga approves the sale of VIP seats in the coming days.

With these movements, the Blaugrana entity is increasingly close to being able to act normally under the 1:1 rule, only pending the approval of the VIP seat operation by the employers' association. It is worth remembering that, at the time, this was not accepted because it did not have a tangible asset. Now, after the presentation of the auditor's report, the final evaluation is expected for its approval.

In this sense, the report should pass the process without problems, since the club has activated 475 VIP seats that are already commercially exploited, as happened in the Joan Gamper Trophy played at the Estadi Johan Cruyff. This step is essential for the auditor Crowe Spain and LaLiga to certify the existence and real use of the asset, as it is physically built and operational.

Registrations about to happen: signings and renewals

To this are added operations such as the sale of players and the sponsorship agreement with the Democratic Republic of the Congo for the first team. With everything on track, Barcelona is confident of being able to register both the new additions —Joan García and Marcus Rashford— as well as key renewals, including that of Wojciech Szczęsny. They could even officialize first team numbers for youth players already integrated, such as Marc Bernal and Gerard Martín.

Will they be able to complete everything before the 2025/26 league debut against RCD Mallorca? The prospects, for now, are very positive.
