Camp Nou works delayed: Barcelona acknowledges errors and seeks to guarantee its return in September

Calendar of FC Barcelona

FC Barcelona is still waiting to be able to return to the Spotify Camp Nou for the first home game of the 2025/26 season, scheduled for September 14 against Valencia CF. A match that, barring anything unusual, should already be played in the renovated Les Corts stadium.

  • 📌THE DATA: the return to the Camp Nou is expected to occur with an initial capacity of 27,000 spectators, segmenting the return in phases and only enabling the Tribuna and Gol Sur areas.

However, given the magnitude of the remodeling, it is not surprising that setbacks continue to appear that could jeopardize the stadium's reopening within the planned timeframe. According to RAC1, Barça has found that there are still deficiencies in the first phase of the works, specifically in the Tribuna and Gol Sur areas.

These irregularities have led the Blaugrana club to rethink its plans and request a meeting with the Barcelona City Council to renegotiate the delivery of the final work certificate.

Barcelona's return to Camp Nou: pending improvements and permits

According to the same source, the problems detected by the team from the Condal City directly affect security aspects, as well as other areas that require improvements to meet the minimum requirements. As a result, the roadmap that foresaw having the certificate ready after the Joan Gamper Trophy has been postponed, at best, until the end of August.

For now, Barcelona maintains the goal of reopening the Spotify Camp Nou on the weekend of September 14. However, the question remains whether the bureaucratic procedures to obtain the partial first occupancy permit will be completed in time, as they depend on both the city council and the security regulatory bodies.

Is there a Plan B for Barça?: Montjuïc as an alternative to Camp Nou

According to information from RAC1, the situation could become even more complicated for the Blaugrana. The club has even started conversations with Barcelona Serveis Municipals (BSM) to activate an alternative plan: to play both the match against Valencia CF and the first Champions League match at the Estadi Olímpic Lluís Companys (Montjuïc).

A scenario that is a headache. In Europe, UEFA requires teams to communicate before August 28 —the date of the group stage draw— which stadium will be their venue for the competition, a venue that must be maintained at least until the end of the group stage in January 2026.

In turn, the Montjuïc option is not free of drawbacks either. On September 12, just 48 hours before the match against Valencia CF, the Estadi Olímpic will host a concert by the American singer Post Malone, which would complicate the logistics and preparation of the stadium to host a LaLiga match in such a short time.

In short, the return to the Camp Nou will depend on Barcelona reaching a quick agreement with the City Council to receive the final work certificate and the partial occupancy permit. A return that has become more complicated than expected and that keeps the Culé fans on edge.
