It dies Josep Lluís Núñez, ex president of the FC Barcelona

This Monday in the morning died Josep Lluís Núñez i Clemente, ex president of the FC Barcelona between the years comprised between 1978, moment in which it won the elections, and 2000, year in which Joan Gaspart him sucedió in the charge. Victim of an illness, the ex managerial culé died to the age of 87 years.

Núñez was a key figure in the history of the FC Barcelona. It imposed in the elections of 1978 to Ferran Ariño and Nicolau Casaus and, since, transformed a club with a lot of debt accumulated in an entity saneada that began to obtain sportive successes. The first title arrived in his first season: the Recopa of Europe in Basilea.

Besides, in 1992, with the ex Barcelona president headed by the entity, the team obtained his first Glass of Europe. "It was an unforgettable year. Have achieved, like president of the club, the first Glass of Europe, after years to struggle so much, was very thrilling and the confirmation of a project and of a model of club that already was a reality", commented Núñez, in one of his last interventions.

With Núñez in the presidency, the FC Barcelona initiated a period of economic tranquility and of sportive successes, adding 175 titles between all the sections with 29 of them in the section of football: 1 Glass of Europe, 4 Recopas, 7 Leagues, 6 Glasses of Rey, 2 Glasses of the League, 2 Supercopas of Europe, 4 Supercopas of Spain and 3 Glasses Catalonia.

His best period arrived with Johan Cruyff in the bench and with the Dream Team fulfilling with the dreams of the partners. The goodbye of the Dutch initiated the final stretch of the presidency of Núñez, that finish leaving the charge in the year 2000 after diverse European failures and in spite of that had conquered two Leagues more.

Deceit of the FC Barcelona

The FC Barcelona issued a communiqué in Twitter in which it regretted the death of Josep Lluís Núñez at the same time that recognised the important that went in the history of the entity. "Deceit in the FC Barcelona by the death of Josep Lluís Núñez, president of the Barça during 22 years (1978-2000) and key figure in the history contemporanea of the Club. It rest in peace", it said, the tuit.
