Joan Laporta, in a new public appearance, has once again referred to the controversial penalty not called on Jules Koundé in the match between Getafe CF and FC Barcelona

Calendar of FC Barcelona

Joan Laporta, in his role as president of FC Barcelona,  has once again come out in defense of the Catalan club regarding one of the major controversies that has revolved around the team: the controversy regarding the penalty not awarded for a foul on Jules Koundé in the match between the Culés and Getafe CF (1-1) in matchday 20 of LaLiga EA Sports.  This happened after the French defender was brought down in the 'Azulona' area by midfielder Christantus Uche, following a clear hold that prevented a clear goal-scoring opportunity for '23' and that wasn't even reviewed by VAR.

The Blaugrana leader recently strongly addressed this issue, asserting: "The refereeing in Getafe is a disgrace. Not calling that penalty on Koundé is a scandal. A scandal. You should replay it more times." He expressed all this visibly upset when addressing the issue after his recent appearance at the Ciutat de la Justicia in L'Hospitalet, where he attended as a suspect in an alleged fraud case due to a lawsuit filed by a family accusing him of defrauding them of €4.7 million.

Laporta reaffirmed his stance on this controversial play

Now, Joan Laporta has revisited the controversial topic. This time he did it from Lisbon, where he is with the Blaugrana expedition that will play the match against SL Benfica, corresponding to matchday seven of the UEFA Champions League. In front of the cameras of 'El Chiringuito de Jugones', 'Jan' reaffirmed his position that the controversial play should have been a clear penalty in favor of Barcelona.  "I don't know if my statements have reached the refereeing body or not. What I'm sure of is that the penalty on Koundé was as clear as day," he warned.

'Jan' criticized the VAR

However, Laporta did not criticize the head referee, Pablo González Fuertes, to whom he considered "did well overall".  Instead, he directly pointed fingers at the Video Assistant Referee (VAR), led by Francisco José Hernández Maeso, emphasizing its lack of effective action in a crucial play. "The VAR should have said something. It should have intervened," he concluded.
