FC Barcelona has once again stood out for betting on young people to populate its first team, to the point of having notably rejuvenated the squad for this 2024/25 season, which has allowed it to position itself as the youngest team in the Spanish competition
The FC Barcelona continues to set trends in LaLiga EA Sports. The Blaugrana team can boast not only of currently holding the lead in the local competition with an overwhelming flawless record of four games and four wins, but also pride themselves on being a team that, for this season, enjoys a noteworthy record.
The Catalan side has positioned itself in the 2024/25 season as the club with the lowest average age in all of LaLiga EA Sports, with an average age of 23.5 years. This is the result of a significant sustained commitment from the Barcelona team over the years to promote several young talents 'made in La Masia' and give them the opportunity to play in the first team as regularly as possible.
This is not just talk but a tangible reality. Just look at the first match of this 2024/25 season in the local tournament against Valencia CF (1-2). In that game, Hansi Flick didn't hesitate to field a starting eleven with five players under 21 years old: Lamine Yamal, Pau Cubarsí, and Marc Bernal, all 17 years old, and Marc Casadó and Alejandro Balde, both 20 years old. Additionally, as substitutes in that match were Pedri González (21), Pau Víctor, and Gerard Martín, both 22 years old. This was just a small glimpse of what is proving to be a season where young players are leading the Catalan side. However, this doesn't diminish the contribution of the veterans who, with their experience, have also contributed to the current success of the Barcelona squad.
How is the age distribution of the Culé club according to the values registered on LaLiga's website in the Barça squad?
- Goalkeepers: Marc-André ter Stegen (32), Iñaki Peña (25), and Ander Astralaga (20) = 25.6 years
- Defenders: Pau Cubarsí (17), Andrés Cuenca (17), Héctor Fort (18), Sergi Domínguez (19), Alejandro Balde (20), Gerard Martín (22), Eric García (23), Jules Koundé (25), Ronald Araújo (25), Andreas Christensen (28), and Iñigo Martínez (33) = 22.45 years
- Midfielders: Marc Bernal (17), Marc Casadó (20), Pablo Gavi (20), Pedri (21), Pablo Torre (21), Fermín López (21), Dani Olmo (26), and Frenkie de Jong (27) = 21.62 years
- Forwards: Lamine Yamal (17), Ansu Fati (21), Pau Víctor (22), Ferran Torres (24), Raphinha (27), and Robert Lewandowski (36) = 24.5 years
In this regard, Hansi Flick's team has significantly reduced their average age compared to the previous season, which was 25.8 years, after letting go of players like Sergi Roberto (32), İlkay Gündoğan (33), Marcos Alonso (33), and Oriol Romeu (32). Currently, they have a lower average age than Real Madrid (26.5 years) by three years, not to mention the last-placed team in this aspect, Rayo Vallecano (29.3 years), whom they surpass by 5.8 years, illustrating a stark difference between the best-ranked squad and the worst in this ranking.
