Barcelona confirmed the absence of Pedri González for the match against Oviedo. The midfielder suffered a right hamstring injury on Wednesday against Slavia Prague
Pedri González will be out for FC Barcelona in matchday 21 of LaLiga EA Sports 2025/26, against Real Oviedo at the Spotify Camp Nou (Sunday, 16:15 CEST). The 23-year-old midfielder left the match against Slavia Prague (2-4) injured in the 21st minute last Wednesday in the Czech Republic.
After undergoing medical tests at the Ciutat Esportiva, the club confirmed that the '8' is suffering from a right hamstring injury, this being the second significant injury suffered by the Tegueste native this season.
Pedri missed four games in November (two league and two Champions League) due to a tear in the distal biceps femoris of his left leg, which prevented him from playing against Bruges, Celta, Chelsea, and Athletic. Later, against Villarreal in the last game of 2025, he was ruled out as a precaution due to calf discomfort
How many games will Pedri miss for Barcelona?
Now, the Spanish international will be out for around four weeks with Barça, according to the prognosis issued by the club's doctors. This will force him to miss, at a minimum, the next 6 official matches for the Blaugrana team, while awaiting the definition of their future in the Champions League and Copa del Rey
After Sunday's match against Oviedo, the Catalans will host Copenhagen (Wednesday the 28th) on the final matchday of the Champions League group stage. If Barça wins, it is very likely they will advance directly to the round of 16 by entering the TOP-8 in the overall standings. Otherwise, Hansi Flick's team would play the 'play-off' between February 17th and 25th
Pedri would miss at least the first leg of the playoff in that case. Furthermore, the '8' is ruled out for the league matches against Elche (in Alicante), Mallorca (at Camp Nou), and Girona (at Montilivi). The midfielder will also not play in the Copa del Rey quarter-final tie against Albacete on February 3.If Barça defeats the Manchego team, they would have to play ** the first leg of the semifinals the following week**, another match in which the Canary Islander would be absent. In the worst-case scenario, the 23-year-old player could miss 8 matches in late January and the bulk of the February schedule.
Barça sets the return date for Pedri González
In principle, Barcelona expects to keep Pedri González sidelined for a month. If this forecast holds true, the midfielder would reappear in the 25th round of La Liga, the last weekend of February (23-24) against **Levante** at Spotify Camp Nou. The '8' has scored 2 goals and provided 8 assists in 25 games (1,820 minutes) this season for Flick's team
The German coach considers him a key piece in his system, but he will not force his return, far from it, with a Barça that needs the '8' at full strength for the final stretch of the season. Last season, Pedri only missed one game due to gastroenteritis (in the league against Valencia), which was his only season without muscular injuries since his arrival at Can Barça in the summer of 2020.
