Calendar of FC Barcelona

The debate about who should be the starting goalkeeper for FC Barcelona does not go unnoticed. In this regard, the former midfielder of the Blaugrana team, Ivan Rakitic, has already pointed out who he believes should stay with the Cule goal.

In this sense, the Croatian, in a recent interview with Cadena Cope, stated that he has spoken with Marc-André ter Stegen and that he has seen him very excited and happy, in addition to expressing that the German should be the goalkeeper of the Catalan team.

"Between Joan García and Ter Stegen it is very easy, Ter Stegen plays." In this way, the 37-year-old former player bets on who was his teammate in his time as a Barça player, a team he joined in the summer of 2014 and from which he left in the summer market of 2020.

"Having Marc healthy, there is no doubt. I wish all of Barcelona's problems were choosing between three great footballers," he added.

Of course, Rakitic did not miss the opportunity to praise the newly arrived Joan García, for whom Barcelona paid 25 million euros corresponding to his termination clause plus 1.34 kilos corresponding to the CPI adjustments.

In this line, the Swiss-born player pointed out that García is a very talented player who will have to earn the starting position in the goal. He also highlighted that being the '1' of Barça is very different from playing in any other LaLiga team.

Joan García and Szczęsny, at the top: Ter Stegen is no longer indisputable at Barça

The arrival of Joan García until 2031, together with the renewal of Wojciech Szczęsny until 2027, completely altered 'MATS' plans, as he would go from being the undisputed goalkeeper of Barça in the last 10 years to losing prominence.

In this argumentative order, the information indicates that Hansi Flick's coaching staff sees García as the first option to be the guardian of the Cule goal in the 2025/26 season, while the Polish player would be the second alternative.

This scenario, which was obviously not foreseeable for Marc-André at the beginning of the 2024/25 season, would leave him as the third goalkeeper of Barça. However, the native of Mönchengladbach would be willing to show the coach that he will fight for the starting position.

However, Barcelona would prefer the German to leave the club to continue reducing the wage bill and allow a boost to enter the 1/1 rule. Ter Stegen currently earns around 7 million euros net per season, but a new inconvenience arises at Camp Barça.

A possible surgery blocks any transfer of Ter Stegen

The '1' of Barça could have to go through surgery, due to some ailments that he would be presenting in his back. Therefore, the player, since returning to team training, has only been exercising in the gym.

Galatasaray is crazy to get the services of Ter Stegen. However, the new scenario facing the goalkeeper could stop any interest from the Turkish giant, since, if he undergoes surgery, he could be away from the field for no less than four months.

Sources close to the Blaugrana entity point out that 'MATS' has already undergone medical tests in order to determine the severity of his injury and assess the need for surgery.
