Ter Stegen has already started his recovery process. The German will be out for at least four months and is expected to leave Barça in the winter.

FC Barcelona has had trouble registering its players, and the departure of Marc-André ter Stegen from the club could be key. The Blaugrana team would consider a winter exit for the German, either via loan or transfer.

Injuries prevented the German goalkeeper from having competitive rhythm last season, as he only played eight games with Barça and the last two with the German national team in the Nations League. His last appearance was on June 8 against France.

The goalkeeper returned to training at the Ciutat Sportiva Joan Gamper on August 13, where he worked alone in the gym, with a specific two-hour training session. Now, his absence could be extended between four and five months.

Ter Stegen could return to Germany in January with Gladbach!

‘Matts’ contract expires in June 2028, and Barcelona does not want to keep its captain on the bench once he recovers from his surgery in the lumbar area. One of the possible destinations where he could finish playing the season would be Borussia Mönchengladbach, a team from which he is a youth player.

According to the latest information, the German team would not look unfavorably on him returning home. In addition, they would be guaranteeing him minutes to be taken into account again in the German national team and to compete for a position as starting goalkeeper with Alexander Nubel and Oliver Baumann.

Marc-André played 127 games with Gladbach between 2010 and 2014, with a total of 45 clean sheets. The Catalans secured his transfer in exchange for 12 million euros, in a summer where the Chilean Claudio Bravo also arrived in Catalonia.

Will Ter Stegen play for Barça again?

Hansi Flick had his differences with the German goalkeeper in the last month. However, those differences were resolved over the days, he even signed the medical report so that it would be approved by LaLiga and be able to open the registration window for his teammate Joan García. The captain had words in the Joan Gamper stating that everything is solved.

Regarding myself personally, I think it has been important to resolve the issue between the club and me, and it is time to look forward”, said ter Stegen with the captain's armband on before the Joam Gamper Trophy, a conciliatory speech at a key moment of the summer.

Beyond smoothing things over with the club, it is very difficult for the German to play for Barça again in the short term. While Joan García and Wojciech Szczesny are physically fit, the Catalan and the Pole will be 1 and 2 in the Blaugrana goal. Hence, 'Matts' must find a place in another team as soon as possible.
