The next few days will be key for Joan García. Barça is waiting for the Medical Commission's decision on 'MATS' time off to register the new goalkeeper
The official start of LaLiga is only six days away and FC Barcelona is working hard to make the pending registrations. Among them, that of Joan García, who aims to be the starting goalkeeper of the Blaugrana team this new season.
In this regard, the registration of the native of Sallent would begin to see the light after the Catalan team and the goalkeeper Marc-André ter Stegen reached an agreement for the latter to accept that his medical report be sent to the employers (it was already done this Saturday) and they determine the time he will be out. This will allow the Medical Commission of LaLiga to study it as soon as possible, according to recent information.
It should be noted that as 'MATS' will not play (due to undergoing surgery for some lower back problems), a percentage of his fee can be used to register another player.
Therefore, Barça hopes that next week it will be able to know the resolution of the body on the time that the goalkeeper will be out. In principle, the club expects his absence to be between four and five months.
Joan García's registration, in the hands of the Medical Commission of LaLiga
In this context, the Medical Commission of the competition must determine if Ter Stegen's absence, after undergoing surgery on July 29, will be extended beyond four months.
The ruling will be key to establishing whether it is a long-term absence (five months or more), which would allow Barça to allocate up to 80% (50% if the absence is four months) of the German goalkeeper's salary to the registration of a new player, in accordance with article 107 of the Budget Regulations of LaLiga.
Thus, considering that scenario, the priority of the Blaugrana club is to register Joan García. Barça had a period of 25 calendar days to formalize the documentation of Ter Stegen's absence, so it was still within the established margin.
If the Medical Commission gives the green light, Barcelona will have 20 business days to proceed with the registration of the new goalkeeper. However, the club wants to register Joan García as soon as possible, considering the fact that he debuts on August 16 in LaLiga against RCD Mallorca and, for now, the only registered goalkeeper is Iñaki Peña, who is being sought for an exit.
Joan García, the new owner of the Barça goal
Barça secured the services of Joan García in June after paying his release clause of 24 million euros. The player arrived from Espanyol, being the club's bet to renew the presence under the three sticks.
The goalkeeper already knows what it is to defend Barça, because in the Asian tour he saw action in the three matches played by the Barcelona team and it is expected that from now on he will be the starter, leaving Wojciech Szczęsny as the second goalkeeper and 'MATS' as the third.
Also, this Sunday he will have the opportunity to be presented to the Blaugrana fans in the match for the Joan Gamper Trophy that will be played against Como 1907, as well as the other new players of the squad such as Marcus Rashford and Roony Bardghji.
