Hansi Flick wants talent from La Masia: these are the names that would have their big opportunity in Barça's preseason
FC Barcelona is starting to refine details for the 2025/26 preseason. In this sense, it has been announced that the Azulgrana team will carry out a tour of matches in Asian territory. Also, there is encouraging news: probably the Joan Gamper Trophy, scheduled to be played on August 9 or 10, can be held at the Spotify Camp Nou. It would be a pilot test of what the definitive return to the historic culé stadium will be.
FC BARCELONA'S 2025/26 PRESEASON:
- Start of preseason | confirmed: July 13
- Friendly match against Vissel Kobe | confirmed (Japan): July 27
- Friendly match against FC Seoul | to be confirmed (South Korea): July 31
- Friendly match against Daegu FC | to be confirmed (South Korea): August 4
- Joan Gamper Trophy 2025 | confirmed: August 9 or 10
Beyond these logistical aspects, little by little sporting details are also becoming known, especially regarding some less frequent players in the first team's dynamics. Hansi Flick plans to call them up to share sessions with the first team players, with the aim of observing them closely and having better references for the future.
Several 'jewels' from the youth academy will be with Flick from the first day of preseason
According to 'SPORT', it is expected that at the beginning of the preseason work —estimated for July 13— several new faces will be seen. These are young players who have stood out during the 2024/25 season in the club's lower categories, and who will now have the opportunity to prove their worth before the official start of the campaign.
Jofre Torrents: one of La Masia's great bets
One of them would be the left-back Jofre Torrents, one of La Masia's great promises. He stands out for his powerful physique, great offensive conditions, good technique and remarkable verticality. He is one of those players who constantly join the attack, unbalance, dribble well and know how to take advantage of the wing, although sometimes he is seen moving towards interior areas. Intelligent from a tactical point of view, he is a good assist provider and, in defense, he is neat, with a good ability to win duels and a remarkable 'timing' in tackles.
In the 2024/25 season he played 31 matches, divided between Juvenil B (1), Juvenil A (14), Barça Atlètic (11) and the UEFA Youth League (5).
Pedro Fernández 'Dro' and Juan Hernández, ready to make the leap
In turn, the same source indicates that two other 'cracks' from the culé youth academy could join the preseason from the first day: Pedro Fernández 'Dro' and Juan Hernández, who have already had the opportunity to train with the first team. The goal is for Hansi Flick to be able to assess firsthand whether he can count on them in the short or medium term.
Pedro Fernández: creativity and class in the final third
Pedro Fernández, known as 'Dro', is a right-footed player who can play as an attacking midfielder or left winger. He stands out in the final third of the field for his creativity and inventiveness, key qualities to generate play and unbalance. To this he adds great vision, good technique and tactical intelligence to move between the lines. He has that typical 'gene' of elegant players.
During 2024/25, 'Dro' alternated between Pol Planas' Juvenil B and Juliano Belletti's Juvenil A, adding 12 goals in 38 duels:
- Juvenil B: 19 matches, seven goals
- Juvenil A: 12 matches, three goals
- UEFA Youth League: seven matches, two goals
Juan Hernández: speed, striking and offensive versatility
For his part, Juan Hernández, who has already aroused the interest of English clubs, is a creative, electric attacking midfielder with a remarkable ability to change pace. He has good associative sense and can adapt to various offensive positions. He does not shy away from shooting from outside the area and can play both on the wing and in the center of the field, which increases his value as a versatile player.
In this 2024/25 campaign, Hernández participated in 43 matches and scored nine goals:
- Juvenil A: 25 matches, seven goals
- UEFA Youth League: 10 matches, two goals
- Barça Atlètic: Eight matches, without assists
Flick wants talent: young players seek to make a place for themselves
It remains to be seen how these young players fit into the first team's dynamics during the preseason and if, after these weeks of preparation, any of them end up earning a place. Hansi Flick has shown that he does not look at the ID, but at the quality, and if he sees conditions to contribute, he will not hesitate to give them an opportunity in a squad already full of quality.
