Jules Koundé scored, in the 9th minute, the first goal of FC Barcelona at Getafe's ground since the 2019-20 season. Junior Firpo was the last Barça player able to break the 'blue wall'
FC Barcelona broke a streak of four consecutive leagues and more than five years without scoring a goal at the Coliseum Alfonso Pérez on Saturday. Jules Koundé put the team managed by Hansi Flick ahead against Getafe (in the 9th minute with his third goal of the season, second in the tournament after the one he scored against Valladolid in matchday 4 (7-0). In the end, the goal from '23' was worth a point that feels insufficient for a Barça that recorded its fourth consecutive draw at 'blue' ground (1-1).
José Bordalás's team stuck to their usual plan from the first minute of the match, completely withdrawn in their field, betting on counterattacks and long balls as the only weapon to try to hurt Barça. Pedri González caught Koundé's arrival in the opponent's area, filtering a perfect pass to leave the Barça full-back one-on-one against Soria. The Frenchman couldn't score on his first attempt against the Spanish goalkeeper, but he got the rebound to finally send the ball into the back of the net.
Barça broke their goal drought but stumbled again in Getafe
Koundé's goal seemed to set Barça on the path to their first victory in Getafe since 2019, but Mauro Arambarri's goal in the 34th minute brought the score back to a tie that would hold until the end. Saturday's match was the fourth consecutive draw for the culés at the Coliseum, after three consecutive 0-0 draws in the 21-22, 22-23, and 23-24 seasons. Previously, in October 2020, Barça had lost narrowly to the 'blue' team (1-0).
The last away victory for the Blaugrana against the Madrid team dates back to September 28, 2019. Luis Suárez and Junior Firpo scored for Ernesto Valverde's team (1-2) in a season marked by the COVID-19 pandemic. With the 1-1 on Saturday, Barça only manages to reduce the gap by one point to the leader, Atlético de Madrid (44), who also surprisingly stumbled against Leganés (1-0) that matchday.
The big beneficiary of the matchday could be Real Madrid (43), who can reclaim the top position if they defeat Las Palmas at home on Sunday, a result that would leave them seven points ahead of the culés. Barcelona, for its part, extends its poor form in LaLiga, where they have only recorded one victory in the last eight matchdays (1-5 against Mallorca).
