The Spanish coach offered a very different explanation from the RFEF's version regarding Dani Olmo's physical condition.
The Spanish coach's statements regarding Dani Olmo's injury have generated even more controversy. The coach's version contrasts with the official explanation offered by the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF). Luis de la Fuente stated that the FC Barcelona player "arrived in perfect condition", a phrase that does not match the medical report.
The situation has reignited the tensions between Barça and the Spanish national team, especially after the string of injuries to Barça players during international breaks. The case of Dani Olmo adds to a worrying list for the Barça club, which has already seen players such as Gavi, Pedri, Lamine Yamal, and Ferrmín López suffer physical problems representing Spain.
De la Fuente Contradicts the Federation's Medical Report
During the appearance, De la Fuente explained: "Dani came in perfect condition, there was no medical report and he simply had a minor discomfort. He hadn't trained all week thinking he would improve, but finally the discomfort increased and we decided, for his health, that he should leave the training camp."
However, the official statement from the RFEF published on the day the player left the training camp stated something different: that Dani Olmo "arrived with signs of muscular fatigue," a version that coincided with information from Barça's medical department. The contradiction has raised suspicions about the coordination between the club and the Federation.
De la Fuente wanted to settle the matter with a phrase that has not calmed tempers at Barça. The coach tried to downplay the drama, but his words were interpreted as an attempt to minimize the concern of the Azulgrana club:
"Whenever there isn't an injury, I feel relieved. Today I'm happy because there wasn't one. But when they exist, I accept them*
At Fútbol Club Barcelona, there is concern about the physical management of players during international matches. The Blaugrana club fears that workloads and recovery are not being managed properly, especially after what happened with Gavi in 2023, when he suffered a serious knee injury also with the national team.
Sources close to the club believe there is a lack of communication and coordinated medical control between both parties. From the player's camp, it is confirmed that Dani Olmo had been experiencing muscular discomfort since before joining the training camp, although it was not a serious injury.
A New Chapter in the Barça-National Team Relationship
Luis de la Fuente's statements open a new front in the relationship between Barça and the RFEF. The Catalan club has not issued an official statement, but internally there is concern that the pattern of injuries with the national team is repeating itself too often. The feeling is that the coaching staff of the national team does not always assess the physical context of the players before exposing them to a high competitive load.
Meanwhile, Dani Olmo continues his recovery process under the supervision of Barça's medical services, who hope that the player will be available in the coming weeks. The case could reopen the debate on the need for joint protocols between clubs and national teams to protect the health of footballers.
