Jonathan David scored a double with Canada against Ukraine and is still waiting for a good offer in this summer market. Will Barça go for the '9'?

Calendar of FC Barcelona

FC Barcelona remains attentive to the future of Jonathan David. Although, in principle, the board rules out signing another center forward this year due to the continuity of Robert Lewandowski and Ferran Torres, the possibility of incorporating the Canadian at 'zero cost' is still tempting.

In addition, the Brooklyn native continues to earn merits to find a place in a 'top' team in the 25/26 season. On Saturday, the 25-year-old striker scored a double with Canada in the friendly against Ukraine (4-2), a match where he played 79 minutes.

David comes from adding 25 goals and 12 assists in 49 matches with Lille. 7 of his goals were scored in 10 appearances in the Champions League, where the French team reached the round of 16 without needing to play the 'play off'.

Canada will host Ivory Coast (early Wednesday morning in Spain) as part of their preparation for the 2026 World Cup, where the North Americans will be co-hosts. Afterwards, Jonathan will go on vacation, waiting for an offer from Barça or a big team in Europe.

Should Barça sign Jonathan David?

As it is a young striker with excellent projection who, in addition, would arrive with a letter of freedom, his signing can clearly be of great help for a Barcelona that prioritizes signing another winger (preferably left-footed) in the summer.

Lewandowski (42) and Ferran (19) are coming off their best goal-scoring seasons at the club, but the Canadian international would also be of great help as an alternative to both.

In the 24/25 season, Hansi Flick counted on Pau Víctor as the third '9'. However, given the limited opportunities, the Catalan is aiming to leave for another Spanish team next season.

With Jonathan David, a similar scenario could arise, since both Robert and the 'Shark' will monopolize the majority of minutes. This, added to the Brooklyn native's salary (in the 24/25 season he billed around 4 million gross) seems to definitively close the doors of the Blaugrana team to the North American attacker.

In any case, the Canadian maintains a clear position regarding the summer market. "I want to fight for titles and play in a team that is competitive and has an optimal sports project," he assured 'The Athletic' in the preview of Canada-Ukraine.

Naples launches for Jonathan David: Barça watches from afar

The American media also referred to Napoli's interest in David. Understanding that Victor Osimhen has no place in Antonio Conte's plans, the Serie A champion is looking to sign another '9' and the Canadian has the 'ok' from the Italian coach.

In this regard, Jonathan praised the season made by the 'partenopeo' team, but also reiterated his intention to resolve his future shortly to complete the pre-season with his new club.

In Lille, the Brooklyn native played five seasons in which he played 232 matches. In them, he scored 109 goals and 30 assists, establishing himself as one of the most effective strikers in Ligue 1. Will Naples be his next team? In England, at least three members of the 'Big Six' also want him.
