Liverpool are looking for a centre-back this summer. Arne Slot's side are anticipating a significant departure in their defence and Christensen would be one of the preferred alternatives. Will Barça be able to cash in on the Dane?

The board of directors of Liverpool does not rule out resolving the transfer of Ibrahima Konaté this summer. The Frenchman's contract expires in 2026 and, for the moment, he does not seem to have any intention of renewing with the club he joined in the summer of 2021 for 40 million euros, from RB Leipzig.

Given the possibility of losing the '5' for free next year, the 'red' board would be willing to look for a transfer in the order of 60 'kilos' (€10 million below its current value). In addition, the latest reports point to Andreas Christensen as one of the favorites to replace the 26-year-old defender, a regular starter in Arne Slot's team.

Christensen, possible replacement for Konaté at Liverpool

Liverpool's reasons for setting their sights on the Dane are due to his experience in England. The Lillerod native played 161 games for Chelsea between 2017 and 2022, being an undisputed starter in the team that won the Champions League in 2021.

Although he has not managed to settle in the Barça XI, Christensen has 4 goals and 3 assists in 80 official appearances for the 'culés'. The '15' missed practically all of 24/25 due to injury, but showed in the last month of the season more than enough conditions to continue competing at the highest level.

Therefore, the Dane has ruled out moving to Arabia or another league of lower hierarchy this year. Andreas has one year left on his contract and his release clause is 500 million. However, Barça has five centre-backs in the squad and the 29-year-old defender will find it very difficult to earn a place in Hansi Flick's plans.

The German, however, will count on him if he stays, but understands the need for the 'Azulgrana' team to lighten its squad with at least six or seven departures, including the former Chelsea centre-back.

Barça will facilitate the departure of Andreas Christensen

In principle, Barça could resolve Christensen's transfer for a figure close to 10 million euros. The defender arrived on a free transfer in 2022 and the club does not want to force his departure on bad terms. Therefore, it is not ruled out that he will be given a letter of freedom if no important offer arrives in the coming weeks.

The Dane returned to the Ciutat Esportiva a week before the start of pre-season, demonstrating his professionalism and desire to get physically fit, while waiting to resolve his future.

Liverpool, meanwhile, is also doing the same with a Konaté who various English portals are already placing in Real Madrid's orbit. The 'Blancos' would have a pre-agreement with the Frenchman to sign him on a 'zero cost' in 2026, repeating their strategy with Trent Alexander-Arnold. The Englishman, however, ended up costing just under €10 million to allow him to play in the Club World Cup.
