The FC Barcelona visits Sevilla this Sunday (4:15 PM CEST) for matchday 8 of LaLiga and will do so with the refereeing of Alejandro Muñiz Ruiz. The Galician referee was designated by the Technical Committee of Referees (CTA) together with Carlos del Cerro Grande (VAR) and Jesús Gil Manzano, the latter as VAR assistant. Last season, Barça had a bad memory with the 34-year-old referee. In the match corresponding to matchday 16, against Betis (2-2), Muñiz Ruiz sent off Hansi Flick for protesting a penalty in favor of the 'Verdiblanco' team. The Barça coach served a two-match suspension and Barcelona ended up drawing that match. ## How has Barça fared in matches refereed by Alejandro Muñiz Ruiz?

For the moment, Barcelona has a very favorable record in League matches refereed by the Galician judge. In total, Alejandro Muñiz Ruiz has officiated eight matches for the Blaugrana team, with a balance of seven Barça victories and only one draw (the 2-2 against Betis from the previous year).

The last time the referee from Pontevedra officiated a Barça match was on May 3, in the visit to Valladolid (1-2). That day, Flick's team took another step towards the League title with goals from Raphinha and Fermín, coming back from Iván Sánchez's initial goal. Ronald Araujo and Andreas Christensen were the Catalan center-backs on matchday 34 and both were cautioned.

Previously, Muñiz Ruiz refereed Barça in the matchday 5 duel against Girona (1-4), also in 24/25. In 23/24, the 34-year-old referee officiated two La Liga matches and one Supercopa match for the 'Cules', all of which ended in victory against Cádiz (2-0), Getafe (4-0) and Osasuna (2-0), respectively.

The referee made his debut in the First Division in the 22/23 season. In September 2022, he officiated Barcelona for the first time, in a home win at the Spotify Camp Nou against Elche (3-0). That same season, he also refereed the Girona-Barça (0-1) match played in January 2023. **Barça's record in matches refereed by Alejandro Muñiz Ruiz:**

Upon returning from the break, Barça added three points against Valencia (6-0), Getafe (3-0), Oviedo (1-3) and Real Sociedad (2-1). Sevilla, meanwhile, are coming off a win against Rayo the previous matchday (0-1) and have two wins, a draw and a loss in their last four matches.
