Barça can extend their lead in LaLiga thanks to a double Madrid clash

Matchday 27 of LaLiga EA Sports 2024/25 presents an ideal scenario for FC Barcelona to extend their lead as leaders of a tournament where Hansi Flick's team has been, by far, the best team so far. The azulgrana team hosts Osasuna this Saturday at Montjuïc (21:00 CEST), a rival that, although they managed to defeat the culés in the first round (4-2), is not in their best form in 2025.

Vicente Moreno's team has only managed to win one of their last eight league matches and were eliminated in the quarter-finals of the Copa del Rey by Real Sociedad (2-0). Barça, on the other hand, arrives unbeaten after 16 matches in 2025, where they have only dropped points with a draw against Getafe (1-1) and another in the first semifinal against Atlético (4-4). 

Atlético and Real Madrid will face two uncomfortable rivals on Sunday

On matchday 27, Barça maintains a one-point lead over Atlético de Madrid and three over Real Madrid. The 'colchoneros' visit Getafe on Sunday (13:00), while the 'merengues' will host Rayo just after the match at the Coliseum Alfonso Pérez (16:15).

Both teams from the capital will play knowing the result of Barcelona, which could mean extra pressure, as long as Osasuna leaves Montjuïc without points. Additionally, Real and Atlético will face each other again on Wednesday at the Metropolitano, for the return leg of the Champions round of 16.

Thus, Barça could stretch their lead over their pursuers with eleven matchdays (33 points) left to play. On average, any of the top three teams could secure the championship if they reach 90 points. In only 1 of the last 7 seasons, the champion managed to surpass this barrier to lift the title (Ernesto Valverde's Barça achieved 93 in 17/18. In 22/23, Barça reclaimed the crown after four years of drought with 88 points.
