Mallorca hosts Barça this Saturday with many doubts regarding its lineup. Up to six players could miss the league opener, two of them due to injury
FC Barcelona debuts this Saturday in LaLiga EA Sports 25/26 against a Mallorca with many doubts both in its lineup and in the squad with which it will face the season. Jagoba Arrasate's team finished the previous year in tenth place in the table, but could suffer several important losses in the final stretch of the summer market.
This Tuesday, the Balearic team began training prior to the match against Barça with six players in doubt for matchday 1. Two of them, Iván Cuéllar and Samú Costa, remain separated from the group due to physical problems.
The 41-year-old goalkeeper has been dragging muscular problems during the preseason, while the midfielder is almost ruled out for Saturday due to edema caused by a blow to his left knee.
Mallorca can add up to six casualties against Barça
Costa comes from adding a couple of assists in 32 league games last season, while Cuéllar aims to be the third goalkeeper, behind Lucas Román and the newly arrived Lucas Bergström. Regarding the goalkeepers, another who remains separated from the squad is Dominik Greif. The Slovakian, starter in 24/25, is expected to leave for Olympique de Lyon shortly.
The same happens with Pablo Maffeo, Cyle Larin and Dani Luna. The three train separately from the group by decision of Jagoba Arrasate, since they have asked the club to process their respective exits.
Maffeo has several European clubs attentive to his future, while Larin prioritizes staying in LaLiga, but with another club. Both have distanced themselves from the coaching staff and the fans, so their departure is only a matter of days. Luna, for his part, played 24/25 on loan at Cartagena and, in the preseason, has not convinced the coach to count on him.
Even Samú Costa himself also expressed to the club his desire to negotiate with other teams, but if a lesion in the left knee is finally confirmed, a possible transfer in the final stretch of the market will practically be ruled out.
As things stand, the Balearic team could present itself to the debut in the League against Barça without the following available players:
- Pablo Maffeo (imminent departure)
- Dominik Greif (imminent departure)
- Cyle Larin (imminent departure)
- Samú Costa (injury)
- Iván Cuéllar (physical problems)
- Dani Luna (technical decision)
Mallorca's preseason and market do not convince the fans
In general, the summer of 2025 has been quite disappointing so far for the vermilion team. In addition to the possible casualties mentioned, the team's preseason was not at all encouraging.
Mallorca played four friendlies before the League debut, with a balance of two wins, one draw and one defeat. The Balearic team was thrashed by Lyon (4-0) on July 30 and, later, drew against Parma (1-1).
In the final stretch of the preseason, Jagoba Arrasate's team defeated Poblense of Segunda RFEF (0-2) and Hamburg by the same score, the latter in the match corresponding to the Ciutat de Palma Trophy (equivalent to the Gamper).
Regarding the market, for now the only investment has been the signing of Pablo Torre. The club paid 5 million net to Barça for the transfer of the Cantabrian, but the azulgrana team reserved 50% of his sports rights.
The goalkeeper Lucas Bergström (released by Chelsea) and the forward Mateo Joseph (loaned by Leeds) also arrived. Others who returned to the 'rojinegro' team were Javi Llabrés and Dani Luna, after a year on loan.
In this way, Mallorca arrives at the League debut against Barça with many doubts against a culé team in great form. Hansi Flick's team closed their preseason with a full of victories (4), scoring 20 goals and are emerging as the main candidate to revalidate the League title.
In 24/25, the Catalans won by a landslide in Son Moix (1-5) with goals from Raphinha (double), Ferran Torres, Frenkie de Jong and Pau Víctor, the latter now in the ranks of Sporting Braga.
