FC Barcelona completed another comeback in LaLiga EA Sports 2025/26, the third of the season and the second consecutive, on Sunday against Real Sociedad (2-1). In a day in which Jules Koundé and Robert Lewandowski scored the 'culé' goals, Pedri González, once again, shone with his own light to take the MVP of the match.

Like against Levante (2-3), LaLiga rewarded the stellar performance of the 'azulgrana' midfielder, who throughout the 90 minutes (Marc Casadó replaced him in added time) completed 105 passes, more than any other player in the match.

The '8' only needed a goal to complete a perfect day against the 'donostiarras'. Barça closed the match with 75% ball possession, largely thanks to the good work of Pedri alongside Frenkie de Jong in recovery and transfer.

The midfielder came close to scoring the equalizer in the 39th minute, capturing a rebound from Remiro after a save to a bad clearance from Zubeldia that almost ended in an own goal. The '8' shot at point-blank range, but Zubeldia himself, without realizing it, slightly deflected the shot to send the ball to the corner.

Pedri was also close to adding an assist three minutes later, with a pass to Roony Bardghji that ended in another save by Remiro to the Swedish striker. Before the break, another great individual action by the Tegueste player left Robert Lewandowski one-on-one, but the Pole failed in the control when entering the area.

In the 51st minute, the 'culé' midfielder again demanded Remiro with a shot that lacked power, after a good turn by the Spanish international to find a shooting angle. The '1' from 'donostiarra' closed the day with 8 saves that, although they did not prevent his team's defeat, did keep the result tight until the end.

In the case of Pedri, his stellar night included 4 successful dribbles, a pair of shots on goal and the same number of chances created, in addition to winning 8 of 14 individual duels and recovering 8 balls. No other player had a similar display in Montjuïc and the fans supported him after his departure in the 90+5'.

  1. Minutes played: 90
  2. Goals: 0
  3. Assists: 0
  4. Chances created: 2
  5. Shots on goal: 2
  6. Completed passes: 105 of 114 (92 %)
  7. Dribbles: 4 of 4 (100 %)
  8. Duels won: 8 of 14 (54 %)
  9. Balls recovered: 7
  10. Defensive actions: 4
  11. Fouls received: 1

The '8' is also the leader in minutes played in the team, with 696. In the midst of Hansi Flick's rotations, the Tegueste player is, along with Lamine Yamal, the only essential player among the field players for the coach. Not surprisingly, he has started in all eight matches played so far, completing the 90 minutes in six of them.

"Pedri is special. He is improving in being a leader. He is a crazy player, very important. When he is on the green, he is everywhere. He gives us control of the ball and knows the position in which he has to be. Together with Frenkie they have organized the team very well. I really enjoy those moments," said Flick about the Canary Islander in the post-match press conference.

Pedri González, undisputed leader in completed passes in LaLiga

The 22-year-old midfielder, with his 105 passes against Real Sociedad, extended his lead in the leadership of completed passes in LaLiga 2025. In seven matchdays, the Barça player has 646 successful passes in 676 minutes of action, with an average efficiency of 90% per match.

Behind the '8' 'culé' appears Álvaro Carreras (Real Madrid), with 409 passes (207 less than the Tenerife player). Beyond his absurd eleventh place in the final ranking of the Ballon d'Or 2025, Pedri proves in each match to be the most complete midfielder in the world, by far, at present.
