Inflated budget? Madrid will pay triple for the Bernabéu works

The remodeling of Santiago Bernabéu will cost to the Real Madrid around 1.200 million euros. In the last Ordinary General Assembly, Florentino Pérez achieved the approval of an extra credit for the culmination of the works by 370 'kilos', which had a backrest of with 1.569 votes in favour (96,14 %), 25 against and 38 abstentions. Up to now, the club has invested 893 millions in the works.

These montos triplican the initial budget of €400m presented by Pérez in 2016. The costs increased to 575 'kilos' in 2019, but in 2021 the managerial board asked other 225 million euros to fund "works no included officially in the remodeling of the stadium". Finally, the project will surpass with ease the €1.000m, converting to the new Chamartín in the most expensive stadium of the world.

However, the mandator 'merengue' justified the exponential increase of the cost of the project in his last intervention in front of the partners. "It is one of the most difficult works to execute of Europe and will be one of the greater tourist centres of the city. We have to be conscious of the efforts that have gone making, surpassing the pandemia, the consequences of the inflation by the war in Ukraine or the increase of the cost of the oil. The industry of the construction has suffered, doing even more complex the challenge, affecting to the terms and costs of the work", argued Florentino.

In this sense, reiterated that the aim of the new Bernabéu is "to turn into the centre of events of Europe. It is difficult to find in the heart of the city a space that can save the lawn in 3-4 hours and was already had for another event". On the retractable lawn, Pérez insisted in attributing the invention. "We have patented it. To anybody had occurred him , because it was not easy".

Besides, it cleared that one of the aims of the 'White House' with his new stadium is to ensure the headquarters of the final of the World-wide 2030. "There will be another better stadium. The Bernabéu no only goes to change to the Real Madrid, but to all Madrid. All the reforms have done so that ingrese every day and do not have to live only of the 26 that there is football. I think that we will not have competition", puntualizó Florentino.
