Real Madrid will not be able to count on one of its stars at the start of 25/26 due to injury. Jude Bellingham will undergo surgery. How long will the Englishman be out?
This Wednesday, Jude Bellingham will finally undergo surgery to treat his discomfort in his left shoulder. The midfielder suffered "anterior instability of the left shoulder" in a LaLiga match against Rayo in November 2023.
Since then, the Stourbridge native played with protection in the affected area. He traveled with England to Euro 2024 and closed the 24/25 season with a total of 58 matches (4,794 minutes) with Real Madrid in which he scored 15 goals and provided 15 assists.
However, after finishing his performance in the Club World Cup, the player decided to have surgery to overcome the ailments in his shoulder and avoid a more serious injury in the coming months.
For Xabi Alonso, this is a significant loss, as Jude, along with Fede Valverde, is indispensable in the midfield for the 'merengue' team, although his performance in recent months has been quite irregular.
How long will Jude Bellingham be out with Madrid?
In principle, the English international will be out for around three months, as this type of surgery requires a rest period of 10 to 12 weeks. Thus, the '5' could reappear only in mid-October with the 'Casa Blanca'.
In total, he could miss the first eight matchdays of La Liga and the first two of the Champions League. Madrid asked LaLiga to postpone their debut in the tournament against Osasuna (August 19) and will play again on August 24 against Oviedo.
In that sense, Bellingham would also be out for the matches against Mallorca, Real Sociedad, Espanyol, Levante, Atlético, Villarreal and Getafe, in addition to the first two Champions League matches, the draw for which will be held on August 29 at UEFA headquarters in Nyon, Switzerland.
Madrid's idea is to have Jude back for the third matchday of the Champions League, on October 21 or 22, and for the first Clásico of the season against FC Barcelona, the last weekend of October at the Santiago Bernabéu.
Will Real Madrid go for another midfielder to cover Bellingham's absence?
In that sense, Jude's absence represents a serious problem for Xabi Alonso's plans, since for the moment the team only has Arda Güler as an alternative to the role that the Englishman usually occupies in the center of the field.
While waiting for the return of Eduardo Camavinga and defining the future of Dani Ceballos, the Tolosarra coach is running out of alternatives to find an ideal '10' for the 3-5-2 scheme that he hopes to consolidate in his first season with the Whites.
For now, the board has made four signings: Trent Alexander-Arnold, Dean Huijsen, Franco Mastantuono and Álvaro Carreras. Ibrahima Konaté (Liverpool) and Rodrigo Hernández (Manchester City) are also in sight, with the French center-back being the most viable option, since his contract expires in 2026 and he does not seem willing to renew with the 'reds'.
