Al-Hilal aims high and wants Ter Stegen this summer. Barça does not rule it out. Discover all the details of the interest

Calendar of FC Barcelona

Marc-André ter Stegen's future as FC Barcelona's goalkeeper could be completely revolutionized if, as it seems, Joan García ends up signing for the azulgrana club. And why not? If the most recent information suggests that the 24-year-old goalkeeper, if he wears the culé jersey this summer, would arrive to assume the starting role.

Otherwise, it would not be explained that the Catalan team is willing to assume the €25M that his arrival to Hansi Flick's team would cost, thus reinforcing a goal that would have Wojciech Szczęsny as second after his renewal.

With this scenario in mind, it is not surprising that rumors begin to be generated around the name of the German goalkeeper. Despite having recently admitted his confidence in continuing to be the '1' of FC Barcelona —club with which he has a contract until June 30, 2028—, the truth is that, with the foreseeable arrival of Joan García to the Barça team, his departure would not be such a crazy idea.

An option that gains special strength when considering a key fact: Ter Stegen cannot afford to risk losing minutes in a year prior to the 2026 World Cup, where everything points to him being a starter with the German national team. Added to this is that Barcelona could be open to listening to offers for a player who still maintains a high cache in the international scene and for whom they could still get a good 'slice'.

  • According to Transfermarkt, his market value is 15 million euros.

Al-Hilal emerges as a possible destination for Ter Stegen

Now, in the midst of this whirlwind of rumors about Ter Stegen and his possible departure from Barça, candidates have begun to emerge who apparently would be willing to undertake his signing this same summer market. According to the newspaper 'SPORT', Al-Hilal of Saudi Arabia would be willing to make a move and hire the German goalkeeper as a brand new reinforcement, to the detriment of the Moroccan goalkeeper Yassine Bounou.

Likewise, the aforementioned information reveals that Al-Hilal —a team that already tested its options with Ederson (Manchester City) and Alisson (Liverpool)— would be willing to pay a significant transfer fee for Marc-André. In addition, they would offer him a salary commensurate with his football hierarchy, as is usually done with the stellar names that land in Saudi football.

Would Ter Stegen accept a challenge away from Europe?

At this point, it remains to be seen whether Ter Stegen would accept a proposal that, although economically attractive, could complicate his aspirations to continue being the starting goalkeeper of the German national team. His arrival in the Saudi Pro League, although understandable as a possible golden retirement, would mean a competitive downturn for the German, who —if he wants to stay in the orbit of the 'Mannschaft'— will probably prioritize other destinations in the European context if his departure from FC Barcelona is finally consummated.
