Saudi Al Nassr wants to sign Andreas Christensen, but the center-back prioritizes staying at Barça. Will the 'culés' be able to cash in on the Dane?
FC Barcelona remains expectant to cash in this summer with Andreas Christensen. The 29-year-old defender has a contract until 2026 and his release clause is 500 million euros. However, his transfer could be closed for around 15 'kilos', since the Dane comes from a season in which he spent eight months injured.
In that sense, the latest information points to the interest of Saudi Al Nassr in the player from Lillerod, although the '15' of Barcelona insists on staying in Barcelona. His renewal, for the moment, is not a priority for the board, but the club does not plan to force his departure either.
And, since his arrival in the summer of 2022, Christensen has had exemplary behavior, always willing to lend a hand to the team even in alternative positions (right back, pivot). In three seasons, the Dane has 4 goals and 3 assists in 80 games.
Christensen's salary, a problem for Barça
For Barça, however, the ideal would be to let the defender go, even if it were for a smaller amount. As the center-back left Chelsea on a free transfer, he was able to negotiate a high salary (12 million euros gross per year), which represents a problem for the 'culé' finances.
For now, the club is still not back to the 1:1 rule to sign without restrictions this summer. In addition, its wage bill prevents the registration of new reinforcements until departures are finalized in the summer market.
While waiting to resolve the loan of Ansu Fati and the possible transfers of Pablo Torre and Pau Víctor, Christensen is pointed out as the third possible discard of Barcelona for the next season. Even Gerard Martín also has options to leave for England.
Andreas Christensen wants to fight for a place in Barcelona
Beyond knowing that he is the last center-back in Hansi Flick's rotation plan, the Dane has no intention of leaving the Catalan team and is confident of having opportunities in the 25/26 season. The club has Pau Cubarsí, Iñigo Martínez and Ronald Araujo as first options, while Eric García should also renew soon.
Likewise, Jules Koundé, although he has established himself as one of the best right-backs on the planet, can return to his natural position if the coach requires it, with which the central line is more than covered.
Not in vain, Barça finally ruled out the incorporation of Jonathan Tah. Christensen can also play as a pivot, just like Eric, but with the return of Marc Bernal he would not have too many opportunities there either.
As things stand, Barça is showing the 29-year-old defender the exit door, although Flick is counting on him due to his experience and the professionalism he has always shown since his arrival in 2022. In any case, we will have to wait and see if the '15' receives an offer from a European club, since for the moment he has no intention of going to another exotic league.
