Andreas Christensen clears up doubts about his future in Barcelona

Andreas Christensen has no doubts about his continuity at FC Barcelona. Although his contract ends at the end of 2025/26, the Dane is willing to resume negotiations for a contract extension shortly. The club, likewise, values his disposition and professionalism, as well as the confidence that Hansi Flick has placed in him.

After almost a year injured, the '15' rejected several offers to leave in the summer. His name also sounds like a possible discard for the next winter market, but the 29-year-old defender does not want to leave Barcelona. First, because he feels very comfortable in the city and, in addition, he is confident that he can earn a place in Flick's lineup.

For this, of course, he must stay away from the infirmary. Christensen did the entire preseason with the team (played 147 in the four summer friendlies) and, in addition, he was a starter against Rayo on matchday 3 of LaLiga. Before that, he had played a quarter of an hour against Levante.

Christensen is confident of having more opportunities

Although he stayed on the bench against Valencia (he had just played two games with his national team during the break), Andreas knows that the calendar will give him new opportunities soon. The next one could come on Thursday at St. James Park, a match where Flick still does not have his central defensive partnership entirely clear.

In principle, Eric García and Pau Cubarsí should remain in the XI, but the return of Ronald Araujo is also feasible. Christensen, in that sense, knows that he is still the fourth option as far as central defenders are concerned, but he can also lend a hand as a pivot if the coach requires it.

His experience with Chelsea, playing as a libero in a line of three, allows him to play without problems on the right or left. In addition, the departure of Iñigo Martínez definitively ruled out the rumors about his departure.

Now, the most logical thing would be to renew him until 2027, understanding that he is an experienced player (he will turn 30 in April) and with a worrying history of injuries.

Christensen maintains his termination clause at 500 million euros and his salary is around 9 million gross per season. Barcelona would be happy to obtain, at least, 15 'kilos' for his transfer, since the Dane arrived on a free transfer in 2022 from Chelsea.

However, the Lillerod native, for now, has no intention of leaving, but he does want to meet with the board to agree on a satisfactory renewal for both parties. A salary readjustment and the possibility of listening to offers in the summer of 2026 are some of the aspects that the Barça board must resolve with the defender's new representatives (the KIN Partners agency).
