Deco reviewed the current situation at Barça after the Spanish Super Cup. Regarding Robert Lewandowski, the Barça sporting director believes the '9' will decide his future in the coming months
Robert Lewandowski's future at FC Barcelona is still unclear. The Polish striker, although he feels very comfortable at the club and in the city, his contract ends in June and, while he has several offers for next summer he has several offers for next summer, he would prefer to stay at Can Barça. To do so, however, he would have to take a pay cut.
Regarding this, the Blaugrana sporting director, **Deco**, made the club's stance on the '9' clear in an interview with the 'SER' network. Barça is not ruling out offering 'Lewy' another year of contract, but **there are no negotiations underway yet** for an eventual renewal.
"Robert is enjoying his time at Barça, he's one of the best forwards in recent years, key for us. It will depend on him, he has one year left on his contract," Deco began saying about the experienced forward's future.
Factors influencing Lewandowski's future at Barcelona
So far this season, Lewandowski has scored 10 goals in 220 games (1,008 minutes), with 11 starts and a couple of assists. His offensive output is far from what he achieved last season, but **Hansi Flick** continues to rely on him for big matches. Clear proof of this was the Pole's start in the Spanish Super Cup final, where he scored the second goal for the Blaugrana.
However, two significant factors condition 'Lewy's' continuity at Barcelona. On one hand, his longevity and recent physical problems. At 37 years old, **the forward suffered a couple of injuries this season** that forced him to miss three league matchdays and one Champions League matchday.
Furthermore, the '9' earns a very high salary (26 million gross annually) that Barça cannot afford to maintain for another season. Looking ahead to 26/27, Robert would have to accept a drastic adjustment to his contract. In fact, a salary of that magnitude could only be maintained if he decides to move to Arabia or the United States
Barça Awaits Meeting with Lewandowski
In that regard, the club hopes to meet with Lewandowski in the coming weeks to define his future. The club values his hierarchy and commitment, but it is necessary to be upfront about their positions before heading into the final stretch of the season. There is still plenty of time to do so.
"**We don't know what his plans are yet. We'll have to sit down and talk clearly**. We're currently focused on important moments of the season, so I don't think now is the time," Deco pointed out.
So far, Robert has accumulated 111 goals in 167 official matches for Barça (0.66 per game). In three and a half seasons, the '9' provided 22 assists and has won 6 titles with the club, 4 of them with Hansi Flick on the bench. His best season was 24/25, where he scored 42 goals.
