Joan García's signing for Barça would place him as the third most expensive Spanish goalkeeper in history, behind Kepa and Raya
The union between Joan García and FC Barcelona is very close to becoming a reality. The 24-year-old goalkeeper from Sallent de Llobregat arrives after an outstanding 2024/25 season with RCD Espanyol, in which he established himself as one of the best goalkeepers of the season.
His incorporation would occur through the payment of his release clause, set at 25 million euros. Likewise, the agreement would link him to the 'Azulgrana' team for five seasons (2030).
Joan García: the second most expensive goalkeeper in Barcelona's history
This move also represents one of the most significant investments by Barcelona in the hiring of a goalkeeper. Assuming the operation is closed at the aforementioned 25 'kilos', Joan García would become the second most expensive goalkeeper in the club's history, only behind the signing of Neto Murara in the 2019/20 season, who arrived from Valencia CF at 29 years old in exchange for €26M.
With his possible arrival, the list of the most expensive incorporations of Barça in the goal would be as follows:
PLAYER | SEASON | TEAM OF ORIGIN | SIGNING AMOUNT |
---|---|---|---|
Neto Murara | 2019/20 | Valencia CF | 26 M€ |
Joan García | 2025/26 | RCD Espanyol | 25 M€ |
Jasper Cillessen | 2016/17 | AFC Ajax | 13 M€ |
Marc-André ter Stegen | 2014/15 | Borussia Mönchengladbach | 12 M€ |
Claudio Bravo | 2014/15 | Real Sociedad | 12 M€ |
In turn, this sale would represent an important economic injection for RCD Espanyol. By transferring Joan García for 25 million euros, the 'Perico' team would be completing the second most expensive sale in its history, only surpassed by that of Borja Iglesias to Real Betis in the 2019/20 season, for which they received 28 'kilos'.
This is how the list of the most expensive sales of RCD Espanyol would be updated:
PLAYER | SEASON | TEAM TO WHICH HE WAS SOLD | TRANSFER PRICE |
---|---|---|---|
Borja Iglesias | 2019/20 | Real Betis | 28 M€ |
Joan García | 2025/26 | FC Barcelona | 25 M€ |
Mario Hermoso | 2019/20 | Atlético de Madrid | 25 M€ |
Gerard Moreno | 2018/19 | Villarreal CF | 20 M€ |
Sergio | 2001/02 | Deportivo La Coruña | 17,9 M€ |
Joan García: among the most expensive Spanish goalkeepers in history
In addition to this, Joan García would become the third most expensive Spanish goalkeeper in history, only behind Kepa Arrizabalaga, acquired by Chelsea in the 2018/19 season for €80M, and David Raya, transferred to Arsenal in 2024/25 for 31.9 'kilos'.
The list of the most expensive Spanish goalkeepers, with the inclusion of Joan García, is as follows:
PLAYER | SEASON | TEAM THAT SIGNED HIM | TRANSFER AMOUNT |
Kepa Arrizabalaga | 2018/19 | Chelsea FC | 80 M€ |
David Raya | 2024/25 | Arsenal | 31,9 M€ |
Joan García | 2025/26 | FC Barcelona | 25 M€ |
David de Gea | 2011/12 | Manchester United | 25 M€ |
Pau López | 2019/20 | AS Roma | 23,5 M€ |
The profile of Joan García: statistics, saves and projection in Barça
All this does nothing but reaffirm FC Barcelona's determined commitment to strengthen its sports project, thinking not only about the present, but also about the future. Joan García is a young goalkeeper, who would arrive with the label of having been the goalkeeper with the most saves in LaLiga 2024/25: 146 in 38 matches. He was only surpassed in the five major European leagues by Mark Flekken, from Brentford, with 157 interventions in 37 matches.

The goalkeeper would also land at Barça after a season in which he recorded eight clean sheets and conceded 51 goals. A goalkeeper with feline reflexes, difficult to beat in one-on-one situations and very reliable when tested from medium or long distance. Safe, with good footwork, and a profile that fits perfectly with what the 'Culés' are looking for. A top-level incorporation.
