Jules Koundé confirmed his renewal with Barça until 2030 and assured that he never had doubts about continuing. Find out his words!
Jules Koundé will renew with FC Barcelona until 2030. Although it is not yet official —since there has not been a statement from the club—, it was the player himself who confirmed this Tuesday the pleasant news that we already anticipated a few days ago in FCBN.
Koundé's statements from Seoul: "I'm happy to renew"
The French defender, in his most recent public appearance before the media from the Four Seasons hotel in Seoul, within the framework of the 2025/26 pre-season tour of the Catalan team, first acknowledged that the agreement with Barcelona is already well underway, pending only the signature:
"Yes, it's a matter of days. When we return, everything will be finalized, so I'm happy about that. It has been quite fast, both the club and I had the same idea: to continue"
Likewise, he confirmed that he never had doubts about extending his link with Barça, confirming that, definitively, this will be until June 30, 2030: "I am very happy here, I feel comfortable in the team and I am very motivated by the club's ambition. Every year they fight for all the titles and I had no intention of leaving. My contract goes until 2030", he assured about the contractual extension.
Jules' versatility: "I feel comfortable playing as a full-back"
In turn, Jules spoke about his experience playing as a regular right-back, although he is a natural central defender:
"I am 26 years old and I feel comfortable playing as a full-back. I am improving and this year I want to take a step forward, but I am available to the coach, who already knows that I can play in both positions"
And then, he admitted that, because of his origins, he will always feel "more central than full-back".

He also referred to the arrival of Marcus Rashford and how his first days as a culé are going: "He is happy, he is seen smiling a lot, cheerful on the field. I think it's normal, he reminds me a bit of myself: someone a bit introverted, but who enjoys playing a lot, and feels more and more comfortable. Everyone has welcomed him very well, he is very comfortable. I, as I speak English, try to help him as much as possible, but in general we are all doing it", he emphasized.
Koundé and the captaincy of Barça: Who will take over from Ter Stegen?
In another order of ideas, Koundé did not avoid the issue of Ter Stegen's captaincy at FC Barcelona. Contrary to what Hansi Flick stated in the press conference prior to the match against FC Seoul —where he confessed that the choice of captain will be, as in the past year, a decision of the squad—, the Frenchman offered another version regarding that matter:
"The truth is that he is not with us right now, and it is not something we are talking about much. We know that his situation is complicated, and as a teammate and person... I know it is difficult for him. The issue of the captain is not something that depends on us, that is a decision of the coach and the club. We have little influence there", he concluded.
